Cubs win, Cubs win.  Behind Ace Assad, and 7 RBI by clutch Dansby!  3-run HR to break tie, grand slam to blow it out.  Conforto got a 2-out RBI double in front of Busch's 2-out game-tying HR.  Assad is now 6-1.  Tyler with two perfect innings. 

Crazy how games are different when offense scores runs. 

Game 2 will have well-rested Shota.  (9 days since last outing.). Havig one of the original rotaton guys starting, crazy!

That’s very helpful…and supports the notion that the PCA call was WRONG.

No way that PCA had both feet “past” the bag, either behind the bag or in a direction seeking to advance.

The article link accompanying Dave’s link notes the actual “past/prior” rule. Very helpful article there. The rule explains why this situation is different than a base stealer coming off the bag slightly.

Madrigal play probably called incorrectly too, but PCA call is more egregious. Clear example of the rule properly applied is the prior link of Eugenio Suarez advancing slightly toward home plate after a walk taking him to 3B.

The past/prior rule is fine. Problem was in the application.

Shota gave up a couple of long HR's in the 2nd, to make it 3-1 Mets. 

In 4th, Cubs have scored 3 runs, still two guys one and no outs, Manea finally getting pulled.  Bunch of RISP hits.  Tie-breaking hit was a hapless attempt by PCA to bunt, blooped it over Bichette's head.  Should have scored even more off awful Manea, but strand the two no-outs baserunners, Bregman of course showing up to make the last out. 

Shota quickly gives up a long, long bomb to tie it. 

With the Cubs up 6-5 in the eighth, Pedro Ramirez reaches on an error, steals second, and then comes in to score on another Mets error that puts PCA on base.  Pete steals second and moves to third on a passed ball, but Suzuki strikes out and can't get the run in.

We'd be tearing our hair out if we played defense like the Mets are today.  Five errors in addition to the passed ball, plus a wild pitch from Manaea earlier.

Two outs in the top of the ninth and the Mets make their sixth error.  Let's get this run in and hold on to win the game.  You can't lose a game in which the other guys make six errors.

...and we score!  Ramirez comes up big again; Nico scores; it's 8-5.

Ramirez gives this team something it didn't have--someone who can do a bit of everything.

HR's are an efficient way to score runs.  Pretty amazing to get out-homered 4-0, but win by 5 runs! 

After going a month without winning any series, they've now gone four series without losing any.  Crazy.
