Yep - wins pretty much sugar coat all the performances - good and bad. There are so many plays that could go either way that could have made the difference in the game. Its just everyone remembers the most visible one near the end.

The Eagles tackles are getting a lot of pub on how they shut down the Bears pass rush. And Lane Johnson and Jason Peters were solid but I give most the credit to Foles for knowing where to go with the ball and consistently unloading the ball prior to contact.
Foles was not throwing to open receivers when he released the ball - but they were open when the ball arrived.

25, 28, 23, 30, 32, and 24...that's an average of 27...even more with the Foles starts.
Bears gave up 16 on Sunday
Yeah, the defense had some lapses but the offense scored ONE touchdown on Sunday and attempted 4 field goals.

This loss isn't just on Parkey. He could've won the game though.. We were winning the game, with Philly on their side of the field,with not much time left. Our D couldn't stop Foles. Stop Foles, we win..
After looking all world against the Vikings, the defense did not feel dominant against the Eagles and the 4th down play was one we could have won it on. Credit Foles, he wasn't spectacular, but he got the ball out on time and prevented our defense from building momentum.

Exactly what I thought today..
Gould wasn't holding up his final season with us. The environment with Trestman was toxic and his performance was below average. Perhaps the best thing for him was to be released so he could refocus and find his swing again. He is still plenty young enough to go for several more years and if he is revitalized from his time away, this would solve a major issue.
One of the trib writers wrote something that I tend to agree with. Parkey could go 12 -12 in September, miss a couple kicks at the start of October and then the Bears fans would be, here we go again. Or have a great year at 39-40, and have to line up a kick in the playoffs with everything on the line again. It just doesn't bode well for the team to have that always hanging over them one kick attempt away.

I know people have been clamoring for Robbie Gould to come back, myself included. But I am wondering how his kickoff distance has been since he was gone. As I recall when Pace let him go, besides making a ton of money, his kickoffs were on the short side.

After what Trestman's family went through you know his life in Chicago is going to be miserable. There are too many weird deranged people out there thinking Parky did something personally to them. It's football, it's a sport, he's not a good kicker and he missed one. As for me I didn't expect him to make the kick based on what I've see this season. Someone said Parkey's first kick barely made it over and he might have been over compensating on the 2nd kick. It looked OK to me. Come on - it's 43 yards - not much further than today's extra points. Nobody kicks a 43 yarder short.
As for Burton. I didn't know it initially occurred Friday - if it had happened in bed the night before then I'd tend to think it was more mental.

The Bears made tight end Trey Burton a late addition to their injury report with a groin injury that would keep him from playing in the 16-15 season-ending loss to the Eagles.
Burton said on Monday he became aware of the issue last Friday and thought he would be able to push through it before waking up on Saturday to find things were “completely locked up.” He tried “everything possible” to loosen up, but it didn’t work out for him.
“I let my team down. I hate it,” Burton said, via the Chicago Tribune. “Especially going against one of my former teams. Playoff game. All the implications. It was tough.”
Burton has spoken about past issues with anxiety, including a December episode related to plans to have Burton throw a pass in a reprise of the “Philly Special.” Burton said he “couldn’t sleep that night thinking about it” and the Bears wound up having running back Tarik Cohen run the play instead.
Burton said he considered whether his issue on Wild Card weekend was a mental one, but felt he was in “a really good spot” mentally and that the reason for his absence from the lineup was purely physical.

Mannely said he obtained film not available to the public and reviewed it with 2 NFL or former NFL kickers (i'll bet one is Gould)
He said the kick was blocked which directed the ball left. The kickers told him there was something wrong with Parkey's approach and leg swing were not right, maybe he was trying to put extra into the kick. The trajectory of the ball was too low so the defender jumped only a few inches to block it.
They also played an interview with Burton from yesterday morning with several reporters.
Burton was saying there was practice Friday and Saturday morning his body was 'locked up" which is what happens when he is injured. He as asked various questions and didn't pinpoint any moment in practice where he knew he was hurt or even what the injury was.
He was asked if it was a mental issue which he denied. Later he was saying his body locked up when it senses danger or something like that.
He was very strange and vague. The commentators said he has a history of anxiety problems and wonder if that's what it was. The interview certainly didn't answer any questions.

I still would take the scenario of 4th and goal with 1:00 minute left in game with our defense on the field for the win 100 out of 100 times.
That was the moment we had a chance to win the game and did not get it done.
I like the scenario (better) where the eagles were at midfield and our D should've stopped them back there. You're leaving out the part where it was 1st and goal and they had 4 chances to get it in. That's not a good spot to be in..

A friend of mine just told me that the field goal was listed as officially blocked. Don't know if the block materially affected the trajectory of the kick.

Sportster is correct. The Eagles did have pretty much the same playoff team as they did last year. However, the Bears have a couple different players than last year's team that got killed by the Eagles; Mack, Nichols, Roquan Smith, Robinson, Burton (if he played), Gabriel, James Daniels...and a new head coach/offensive coordinator. But other than that it was the same Bears team.
I think this is just Sportster's way of dealing with the trauma of the loss.

Donnatel is out of contract - he didn't renew when Fangio did last year. But I believe if a coach is getting a promotion to HC or DC/OC they most of the time can get out of a contract as a lower level assistant.
We are assuming an NFL team offers Fangio and that Donnatel decides to leave a playoff-caliber team for a losing team under Fangio. Donatel is actually a year older than Fangio and if he wants to eventually be a HC too - you'd think he'd want a fast track to success rather than dealing with a long term project.

Trubisky has improved so much an Nagy will be working with him on reading defenses decision making and working faster(I noticed on many plays Trubisky hesitated when receivers were open and the defense defended the pass)
Pace will tweak the roster Nagy will learn from his mistakes and they will start off a better team.

Listened to Golic on ESPN this morning on the way to work - they were talking to Chicago' Tom Waddle about the long Miller catch over LeBlanc and subsequent fumble.
Initially ruled an incomplete pass but after review if was ruled a catch, but since the ref picked up the ball before anyone attempted to pick it up - it reverted back to incomplete pass? Or no play?
The announcers didn't understand why it wasn't Bears ball at the point of the fumble since it was never recovered. Huge play. I thought the Bears caught a break since I did not see Miller's knee hit the ground before the fumble.
Somewhat reminds me of the Bears/Packers NFC championship game where a ball was just sitting on the field.
Even the Eagles D thought it was Bears ball down there. Strange play...

Good point. Many here are criticizing the Bears for not getting to Foles more...meaning more sacks.
Bears had pressure on him throughout the game but Foles rarely held the ball for more than several seconds. And it was incredible how accurate he was with someone in his face. Unlike Kirk Cousins, he didn't wilt.
He also has quite a bit of trust with his receivers: Jeffery, Agholor, Ertz, Sproles and Goedert. I really really miss Jeffery...his catch on 3rd and 9 when Amukamora was laying back in the end zone was huge.

What if more of the 10-15 passes Foles tossed up off his back foot to have a WR run under them and make the catch gets picked off?

The only way to deal with injuries aside from training practices is to upgrade your back ups. Bears dodged a bullet this season at CB and offensive tackle.
Bears don't have 1st or 2nd rounder but Pace has been fortunate in the 4th and 5th rounds. Maybe some more free agents might be inclined to sign with the Bears though there probably isn't a lot of cap to sign any impact guys.

Yeah, a lot of us could and would chip in, but thats not the issue. I am not in disagreement that a go fund me page will be started. I just believe the league wouldnt allow it because it would circumvent the cap rules in place. As for the money, the McCaskeys have the money. We know that, we arent morons you know. Bears lost against Carolina in the playoffs and went to the SB the next year. They lost to the Niners then went to the SB and won it in 85.
I am optimistic about their future. Be pissed at the loss. But these aren't your same old Bears.
They are a very young team and should get better. No guarantees but the arrow is pointing up.
Trubisky in his third year and second year in this offense? A whole off season with the same WR's and working things out? The offense should be a lot better next year.
I saw a Nagy interview today where he said when they were installing the offense Trubisky didn't know all the defenses so couldn't absorb what he was supposed to do against them. Now he knows those defenses and what he is supposed to do. Now imagine a whole offseason of cementing what and where he is supposed to go with the ball against each defense on each play.
I think Trubisky is going to be a top 10 QB in the league for a long time. He hasn't peaked. He is just beginning to scratch the surface of how good he can be.
The D should remain good to excellent. Smith was a rookie and missed training camp. He should be better next year.
A kicker that makes the FG's he is supposed to? Yeah we will have that.
I bet we draft one if nothing is available in the offseason. Althugh I hear Goulde is available.

I really hate to second guess but when you lose by one point I begin to wonder if those two point plays with the defensive players who aren't used to blocking and catching and handing the ball off tackle to a small WR is really worth it.

Bears offense scored one TD and kicked 3 fields goals for 15 points. Eagles had the best red zone defense and it showed. Losing Burton was big as the Bears really don't have any big time receivers like Jeffery and Ertz, though Robinson showed he's pretty close. And Shaheen was over drafted in the 2nd round - he's tall but he has no speed and doesn't pose a threat to the defense.
As for Trubisky I didn't see him missing a lot of open receivers out there. Sure he could have made more plays but he didn't get a whole lot of help from the run game. How many times did we face 2nd and 10 or 2nd and 11?
Parkey will get all the blame and he should get most of it but our offense needed to put up more points but just didn't have the firepower to take advantage of the Eagles secondary and the Bears O-line excellent protection. Keep Long and re-sign Massey....and Callahan too.

We just lost to a team that really isn't all that good. Last season they were a much better team..

We all knew Parkey would lose the playoffs for us, just did not think the first round at home.
Eagles played well. However I do think our offensive playacting was a bit overthought. Same as the KC playoff game loss last year.
Nagy really needs to learn how to wear a defense down with a RB. Maybe Howard is not the guy, but we better find someone who is that guy. Because if it just the coach's preference to call passing plays, we will never win the SuperBowl.
Mack played poorly this game. Hick's and Trevathan our the defensive MVP's.
We have no 1st or 2nd round pick in draft and our cap space is not overwhelmingly great. We better win it all next year, otherwise our window may not be as big as some think.

Just heard the Eagles are regarded as having a good run defense because they average only allowing 97 yards.
However they average giving up 4.7 yards per carry and teams running the ball at least 20 times have beaten the eagles every time.

One thing that I always loved about football is that it is a true team game. Ten guys on the field can do their job perfectly but if one does not that one can be the reason a play (and season) fails.
What excites me so much about this team (above the fact that they have a pulse and are genuinely interesting) is that they really seem to be playing for EACH OTHER as much as themselves. A good example is look at when a player who outside of Chicago goes out and has a good play (Bellamy, McManus) and EVERYONE is patting them on the back on the sideline and just enjoying the moment. Its happened multiple times this season and is a good indicator of where this team locker room is....
They do not know how good they can be (yet). The best is yet to come........

Been 8 years since we've been in the playoffs. Lost to the Pack in the championship game... So it's easy to understand the apprehension. The eagles are playing good ball right now, but so are the Bears. There would be a lot more talk about Superbowl if they had the "experience"..

Assuming Trubisky is the real deal - I think the offense could add a deep threat WR, a complete running back, and another offensive lineman. But I think they can win with the current talent base offensively but offense still ranked 21st.
BTW, Mack, Fuller and Jackson were just voted all-pros.

Unless Pederson has something new up his sleeve, the Eagles are who they are with Foles. No running game, which plays to our strength. Abandon the run and let our front 7 batter your offensive line and push them back into Foles. Hold the ball 2.5 ticks to allow the deep pass to develop and feel the pressure. I know this is the Eagles and I know they beat us last year and are the returning champs and Foles is the wonderboy… but not this year. The Giants beat us with a solid running attack, a pick 6, and a trick play. The Dolphins beat us with a running attack, spreading the defense out, and withering heat. Green Bay and New England beat us before we knew who we were.
The Eagles march was all in Philly last year. The Eagles are on the road, and Soldier will be rocking. I honestly feel we are going to steamroll the Eagles and take it on the road to LA.
The Pats beat us on a blocked punt and 90+ yard kick off return. The Pack beat us because Rodgers...was who we thought he was and we let him off the hook!

Miller acknowledged his left shoulder completely dislocated during Sunday’s game against the Vikings.

The Eagles march was all in Philly last year. The Eagles are on the road, and Soldier will be rocking. I honestly feel we are going to steamroll the Eagles and take it on the road to LA.

The Eagles are pretty much the same team that won the Super Bow with the exception of their defensive backfield where they may be starting 3 backups...one of which may be ex-Bear Crevon LeBlanc. A fiesty slot guy with little deep speed....he can be beat deep.
Eagles are playing down Foles injured ribs...heh heh.

Bears on defense. Eagles don't run well (28th) and the Bears are the best in the league against the run. Eagles are 7th in passing Bears are 7th in stopping the pass. So about even, with Bears getting a slight advantage because of Philly not being balanced offensively.
Bears on offense. Bears passing is the weakest phase of their game offensively/defensively. But the Eagles are 30th against the pass which helps the Bears quite a bit. Eagles are very good against the run (7th) Bears 11th but lately been on the upswing.
Special teams. I'd guess that the only advantage the Bears have is with Cohen on punt returns. Hopefully he'll be busy.

Foles will be under pressure and hit often. They don't have much of a running game and I don't think they'll score a lot.
The Eagles are without 3 starters in their DB. Hopefully the Bears can exploit that because their front 7 is really good and stops the run well.
Unfortunately downfild passing has not been a strength so I look for a low scoring nail biter Sunday.

Foles must have a quicker release and is very accurate - he's just not very mobile.
Trubisky had 3 runs against the Vikes - all scrambles. Trubisky will probably have designed runs this weekend.

I saw the injury report late afternoon yesterday - all 3 of the injured wideouts were in full practice status. Bears will still need to dress an extra receiver(s) for Sunday.
I believe Wims is a backup for Miller's slot spot and White is the backup for Gabriel.
As for Eddie Jackson, I think they were hesitant to practice him because of the slippery practice conditions and decided to give him an extra day to heal. I think Lynch is pretty much out.

The Bears' wide reciever corps -- a unit that's particularly banged up after injuries to Allen Robinson (ribs), Taylor Gabriel (ribs) and Anthony Miller (shoulder) -- are all still considered day-to-day. Robinson has been out since the Bears' win in San Fransisco on December 23rd, while Gabriel and Miller suffered their injuries in the season finale in Minnesota.
"They're in a good spot with us" the head coach added. "... I do feel good with where they're at right now."
Nagy had slightly more to say about safety Eddie Jackson, who's been out since spraining his ankle on the NFC North title-clinching interception against Green Bay. Jackson will test the ankle today at practice, but is still considered day-to-day as well.
"For him, it's one of those deals where I have to make sure what he's telling us and where he's at physically," Nagy said. "We'll test it today and get an idea practice-wise or whatnot and then just go day by day. If he's in a good spot and he can go then we'll do that, and if he's not then we'll have to make that decision."
There was no explicit update on Aaron Lynch, who also remains day-to-day with an elbow sprain.

Fangio doesn't come across as having a dynamic energetic personality. In interviews he's not very colorful - pretty much meat and potatoes. He'll not appeal to some GMs HOWEVER, with all the openings out there he just has to appeal to ONE GM and that's all she wrote.
He'll be a HC like Nagy in that he'll run the team and the defense but totally turn over anything relating to offense to his OC. The other problem is that he could take a few assistants with him not to mention getting distracted from focusing on the Eagles this weekend and the Rams after that.

In the past word has it he didn't get further consideration because he was too gruff and outspoken in his interviews. Hopefully he doesn't get hired away.
Also teams sometimes teams/GM's interview coordinators to get their opinion and analysis of their team for their own benefit without really considering the guy for the job.

Quarterback Nick Foles sustained bruised ribs during Sunday's win over the Redskins but avoided a fracture, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo and NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday. The expectation is Foles will be good to start against the third-seeded Bears on Wild Card Weekend.
Eagles coach Doug Pederson confirmed later Monday that Foles will start under center in Chicago on Sunday.
Foles sustained the injury in the second half of the Eagles' 24-0 win over the Redskins. The win, coupled with Minnesota's loss to Chicago, has Philly back in the playoffs a year after their Super Bowl triumph.
Foles is the reigning Super Bowl MVP and has won three consecutive starts for Philly since taking over for an injured Carson Wentz.

We now know why Washington refused to sign Cousins to a long term deal - he is 4 and 25 against winning teams. He could not complete deep passes yesterday....killer. He was worried about getting hit. Every pass was gone before 2 seconds.
Nick Foles has a rib injury...apply the pressure Fangio!!! I can't think of a more painful injury than ribs - it takes forever to heal. It hurts to breath. IF he plays do you think he wants to get hit? One hit could make it 10 times worse. Try throwing a football with a rib injury. You will only make it worse.

Bears were 4 point dogs today and will probably only be the obligatory 3 point home team favorites next Sunday night.
Great team victory - everyone had a solid game except for our keeker.
I know we've all wanted more out of our Howard in this offense but he's showing what he can do when he's more a part of the offense and gets a head of steam going. If he continues this the Bears become more balanced and less dependent on Trubisky having to make so many plays. I think they like Trubisky making more safe throws and avoiding turnovers.
Now we got to see what's the status of our starting wide receivers for next week,

No matter who the Bears play their QB is going to be taking hits. I don't care if it is Foles or Wentz. Neither is going to be very comfortable in the pocket especially nursing an inury.

Lovie's defense had a lot of tunrovers and some awesome games but they always seemed to give up lots of yards and give up the big play way to often. This defense is flat out dominating.
QB's are running for their lives and RB's are often shut down until it no longer matters.

Nice article, but just a lot of projection.
IF, Fangio wants to be a head coach then I can't imagine throwing dollars at him will change his mind to remain a coordinator. He is 61, not 41. So I can't imagine he would jump into a volatile situation. Say the Cardinals who just hired Wilks decide to part ways after just one season. Why would someone with a secure job and one he loves, step into that where the owner doesn't allow the current coach more than one season? On the Score yesterday, Biggs did make this point and followed with the GM might be on thin ice also. So would you leave Chicago to take a cluster job?
Unfortunately , I think the Packer job is a nice fit. Hate him or just dislike him a lot, Rodgers is in place. The offense lacks some talent for now at the skill positions, but as we have seen that can be fixed quickly, aka Bears 2017 vs Bears 2018. Their defense is not good, but there are some parts there. Fangio was able to guide the rebuild of our defense, before he oversaw the rebuild of the 49er defense. He would also be an adult voice with Rodgers which is what he needs, not some young up and coming offensive coach. Rodgers isn't going to change now.
If offered the Packer head coach position, would Fangio change his mind because we sweeten his deal here? Not likely. Not if his career dream was to be a banker.... er, a head coach. A little Seinfeld reference there at the end...
I don't buy that there is anything we can do to keep Fangio if the right opportunity comes along and that is what he wants. No matter what the cost.

It is almost always that his kicks sail right when he misses. I am not a professional kicker, but I almost think it must be something with his standing placement being off a half foot before he starts the process. It sucks not being able to rely on him.

This team is young and don't quite know what they are yet (like a premier racing foal getting to its unsteady legs). But the initial indications are that they are a team with "legs" (so to speak) that can make an extended run...
The playoffs are a different beast (as is the Superbowl) than regular season as regular season is to pre-season. Here's hoping they cope with it well and win.

WTF regarding Parkey. We're going into the playoffs with a kicker that can easily miss field goals that are extra point range. You get a bad weather day at Soldier and field goals could easily be the difference.

I knew this was gonna be a tough win. No offensive style points but take the road victory.
Thoughts:
- don't EVER rush 3 guys
- not only is Nagy getting too cute on short yardage they were running Howard wide several times when only a yard was needed
- all offensive skills players need to practice holding on to the ball after getting tackled - all our future opponents are going to be doing their best peanut tillman impersonations
- Bears finally attempt a deep pass - Nagy is still conservative with Trubisky attempts - lots of short passes (86% completed with 8.5 per attempt) - do we have crossing patterns in our play book?
- nice pressure on pass rush - that was the difference between the 49ers team and ours - despite them having 3 sacks to our 1
- Cohen has one of his least productive games - 49ers focused on him
- QB for 49ers was impressive with a bunch of backup skill guys - without Mack today we lose
- this offensive production will get you beat in playoffs

But when the talk comes to playoff teams and their chances they like the Bears but totally disrespect Trubisky. It's not just the local Dallas talk radio. Nationally it's the same thing. Bears will do well as long as Trubisky isn't the reason they lose but he doesn't have to be the reason they win.

I'm hoping Trubisky makes these talking heads STF up.
Well the Cowboys looked unbeatable in their game a week ago then shut out Sunday. I wouldn't want to face the defense they had a week ago.

Totally agree with you on Chase. Even with the pick 6 he could have won that Giants game if he wouldn't have mishandled those snaps.
But I was more pointing out the athleticism of Trubisky yesterday, most NFL QBs not just Daniel, most starting QBs, don't escape a couple of those Packer blitzes yesterday.

Also, agree about Trubisky, played solid, much better than last game. One comment about Chase Daniels. If you think about some of the backups we've had, Chase is head and shoulders above them. Actually, Chase is much better than most of the starters we've had. I b!tch about Chase just like the rest, but realistically, he ain't bad for a backup. He fukked some things up at the end of the Giants game, but he also made some decent throws.

Packers' RT Spriggs was the guy the Bears were rumored to be taking in the 2nd round of the 2016 draft. Packers traded up one pick before the Bears pick and took him. Bears then traded down when their pick came up next.
I think most Packers fans would agree that he has been a disappointment. Bears ended up with an extra mid round pick and took Cody Whitehair later in round 2.

Bakiaratti is considered the best LT in the league. But if you watch his play he latches on to defenders inside their shoulder pads and never lets go. A QB can roll out to the left and the defender doesn't move. No flag. #47 was being held and Rodgers backpeddled and Irving was trying to chase him down and Bakiaratti literally tackled him around the waist. Nothing. And the one holding penalty they finally called on #78 I really didn't think was that bad.
Trubisky had a very solid game. But some of his plays to escape the Packers blitz were outstanding. That's what I was talking about the big difference between him and Chase Daniel. Daniel does not win the game Sunday.
Back to Trubisky I think Nagy is limiting some of his throws to short and intermediate - no deep ones Sunday. Impressed by a couple throws to Gabriel and Shaheen. But Anthony Miller was never targeted once - often times relegate to patterns that are along the line of scrimmage to simply eliminate a defender.
Running game just not consistent. Too many 1 and 2 yard runs.

This is a young team I doubt there's many that understand the history of beatings we've taken by the Pack and Rodgers over the years. Who has been with the Bears more than 5 years on this team? Since Kyle Long is on IR - McManus is the only one.
But I think the media and coaches will do a good job of reminding them of the importance of beating Green Bay.
I know that Callihan has a broken foot - can he recover in 5 weeks and play in the NFC Championship game?

I think only Trubiky, the Bears coaches and the medical staff really know the status of his shoulder - we can only guess base on his play. They aren't going to be 100% truthful.
McManis is a huge liability at cornerback but I think we can get by with him at nickel. In the few games he's been on the field he's done well. But he's in no way a Bryce Callahan.
The Rams D-line is pretty much Aaron Donald. He's got half the team's sacks. But Suh and Brockers are not pass rushing threats...3.5 and 1 sack on the year respectively. Aside from Donald their strength is their defensive backfield but overall it's a middle of the road defense.
Stripping the ball out of the QB's hands is a sack.
Bears had all sorts of defensive alignments up front. They'd played more 3-4 last night than they have recently. In a 3-4 when you rush 4 one of the LBers has to drop back. Rushing the passer takes a lot of energy. Bears often gave Mack and Floyd a break by letting them drop into coverage.

It's hard to figure his bad throws were due to the injury because he was throwing hard. Strangely, I heard analysis of Cam Newton after yesterdays game and they were discussing that he has a bad shoulder. Newton is also throwing hard but overthrowing.
McMannis led the team in tackles with 7. But I think opponents will be targeting him if he has to play.
I'm still scratching my head how this OL so effectively blocked by far the best DL it has faced. AARON DONALD was in the game and looked just average.
Collinsworth pointed out the fact that Trevathan and Smith have enough speed so the Bears don't need to bring their safeties up for the short passing game like other teams. Pace knew what he was doing.
Does Mack get credit for a sack when he knocked the ball out of Goff's hands?
Beerfan, I think the reason Mack is dropped into coverage sometimes is because he sometimes is triple teamed. There's not much chance of getting a pass rush through that. I see he just drops into coverage and you see two OL and a tight end standing there with no one to block.

The way I understand it is Mitch needed a lot of work on mechanics earlier in the year and pre-season. I am just guessing the time off has lead to more bad habits.

I think Mitch's shoulder injury was a lot worse than what they let on. If I'm Nagy, depending on how Mitch feels today, I think about sitting him a couple more weeks. He could skip the Packers game and come back for the 9'ers. If his shoulders good, then great, get him the reps..
I agree - it was worse, but the fact that he was OVER throwing receivers tells me its more rust/mechanics than it was pain/weakness. Assuming the shoulder is sound he needs more reps not less.

- according to Pro Football Focus the Rams LT LG RG and RT were all ranked 3 or 4 at their position in the NFL. Bears interior d-line had one of their best games - not just Hicks but Bullard, Goldman, and Ray-Robertston Harris.
- NFL network start'em sit'em said to start Brandin Cooks 3 catches 22 yards and to sit Jodan Howard (he's on the list just about every week) 19 for 101 (I'm thinking that that 4th rounder is solidifying once the Bears trade him in a couple months)
- Offensive line did a fantastic job, not just Daniels, all of them, Leno and Massey kept the pocket clean, Witzmann had some good blocks and Whitehair had some great pulls that opened up huge holes. Aaron Donald for league MVP?
- Trubisky rust was apparent - way off - even on those sideways easy throws. Announcers said he had a dislocated shoulder which is much worse than the day to day stuff Nagy was telling the media. I was almost hoping they brought in Chase Daniel at one point as everybody was doing their job except #10

If anything Trubisky is probably in better shape than he was before the injury. He may be a bit rusty early on but its like riding a bicycle his muscle memory will kick in.

I saw most of the game that I missed (still haven't seen the 3Q) last night.
Even with the two picks I think Chase Daniel wins the game if not for the fumbled snaps (slippery ball/eyes off the snap/low snap). I was impressed with the comeback attempt and I really have no issues with Chase Daniel...as a backup QB, that is.

Yeah, they made the ball slippery. Even with the 2 picks - you take away those 4 or 5 fumbles and its a different outcome.
Don't give too much credit to the Giants defense - they still gave up 27 points. Lions defense didn't get any turnovers but still held the Bears' Daniel led offense to 16 points.

Bears are essentially a 4-2-5 defense. They play a lot of nickel. So instead of 3 hefty d-lineman in there, we only have 2 paired with 2 undersized DEs and only 2 backers.

Daniel is a smart QB but he's just not Trubisky physically - the Giants didn't do anything special other than playing our receivers a bit tighter knowing that Daniel may not be as comfortable or as capable throwing into tighter windows.
Next stop - the Rams. I'd like to see someone besides Mack, Floyd and Hicks get pressure on the QB. I've said this before about Nichols, Bullard, Goldman and Robertson-Harris.

Even though he's been in the league 9 years game experience counts.
He was a tick late on nearly all his throws. You could see open receivers having to wait for the ball and the downfield throws were late and short.
Otherwise the plays were there for the Bears.
The other thing is run blocking, or the lack of it. Our interior line either gets completely beat with tacklers in the backfield or gets stymied at the line of scrimmage for short gains. I hate to say this, but I liked the way the last offensive scheme under Loggains moved linemen around to create blocking mismatches which caused Howard to excel. I don't see much of that creative pulling anymore. Howard's only success is when he sees an opening away from where the play is designed to go.

See Daniel attributes...short, average arm, lack of game experience...the picks come with the territory but fumbling 4 or 5 snaps?
We see the value of Trubisky even more now....sure he has some issues in finding that secondary receiver but often he turns a bad play into a nice gain when he scrambles for yardage or at least enough to escape the sack.

Daniel is a career backup with virtually no starting experience in his entire career aside from the Detroit game. Plus he's short, doesn't possess Trubisky's big arm or his escapability athleticism.And to throw the damn ball away rather than taking a sack...
You can't expect a 100 rating game out of Daniel 2 weeks in a row - but you do expect a QB to at least catch the damn snap.

That's why I was worried about this game. Bears offense is not a juggernaut by any means. In fact, the last 2 wins were decided by defensive scores.
The offense did put up 27 but in today's NFL you can't always count on your defense to totally shut down opponents and certainly can't expect them to score points.
Daniel almost pulled it out - made a lot of plays, but not enough to overcome his own errors.
As for the defense 30 is a lot to give up. But if you take away the 3 in OT, the 7 when they weren't on the field, and another 3 (I believe) after Gabriel fumbles deep in Bears' territory...that's 17 points which in today's NFL is damn good.

Lots of mistakes by a lot of different Bears. Total team loss, even the coaches did not call a great game. However I will say coming back to score 10 points not the road with your backup QB with 2 minutes left in game...that's impressive.
Minny and GB lost today. We still are in control of the NFC North. Most everyone here said if we make the playoffs its a great year. Looking like we are going to do that. I could even see us winning the first game at home. Our team is young, one of the youngest in the NFL. We do not play well on the road. We will need to learn how to win on the road, especially during playoff intensity and atmosphere.
This year is fun. Next year is the year we have legit shot at winning it all. We need a stud RB that fits Nagy's system. We need another above average OL. We need to be able to run the ball better.

The Giants D holds every play - blatant - it called a few times.
Sitting Trubisky cost us this game....you can't turn the ball over 3 times with your backup QB.

None of us expected them to be as good as they are. Be frustrated with the loss but enjoy the season.
To go .500 with your back up QB is about as good as you can expect.
