Cubs, Sox, Bulls, Hawks, college football, college hoops, whatever...
Just no WNBA, please...
-
Loved seeing the Cubs take St Louis in a series at their place.
-
5 outs from a sweep. Wish they could have taken them all.
-
Dave23
I was really looking forward for a place to talk about Brittney Griner and her recent relationship issues...
-
You don't give Kris Bryant a day off when you play the Cards...
-
I watched the first game, they jumped all over 'em.. I loved it..
-
dallas,
I got nothin'...
-
Go Cubs Go!!
-
Just watch #5, Robert Nkemdiche, tonight at Alabama...
He's a better fit in a 4-3, but damn I'd love to see him on the Bears...
-
Helluva game by the Cubs last night... Arrieta,, Man!!
-
Arrieta was shaky at times and still throws a 4 hit shutout...too bad he'll only get one chance in the 5 game series against the Cards.
-
He could probably go 3 straight - is that allowed?
-
It's a close tie, but I have to say, I may hate the cards more than the packers.... Eh,,, I don't know, I hate both of 'em...
-
Personally I don't care for ANY national league team and dislike the Packers 10,000 times more than the Cardinals and I don't care who wins that series.
-
I hate the Cards 1000x more than I hate the Packers, and I really hate the Packers.
-
I am not a fan of baseball like I am football but have always followed the Cardinals. However my wifes grandma who was a HUGE Cubs fan passed away this year so I am rooting for the Cubs to win it all. It is what she would have wanted. In fact we believe she may very well be the one making it happen. :)
I despise the Packers like no other. I would be thrilled if they lost every single game from here on until the end of time. When the Bears aren't playing I watch Packers games just to root against them.
-
Who do I despise more....Packers or Cardinals? I guess it depends on what month it is.
-
Peak a Boo
You watch Green Bay Packer games to remind yourself of how it looks when played extremely well.
-
Actually Otto the Packers are not that good of a football team. Aaron Rodgers is a phenomenal QB and he makes the team seem much better then it really is. Take him away and they are not even a .500 team.
-
Helluva game last night. Arrieta showed he is human, but the bats showed up. Win one more and those fuckers will be kicked to the curb... All this with 4 rookies in the starting lineup.. Fuckin Schwarber and Soler during the playoffs have been really knocking the ball (Soler, wow).. I sure as hell didn't think they'd be where they are right now, not after the way the season started... Reminds me of UVA baseball, started the season sucking, got hot at the right time and ended up winning the the college world series (that was some serious baseball as well)...
-
Fuckin A!!!! Another helluva game!! Bye Bye Cards!!!
-
I hate the Badgers and the Packers and their **** fans 1000x more than the Cardinals, and I really hate the Cardinals ever since those days of ugly ass ET McGee, Jack Clark, and Herzog.
Keep the dream alive Cubs.
-
There's only one club I utterly despise and that's the Pakers. Cannot stand em. Not a fan of baseball but it's nice to see the Cubs finally doing something. Hopefully they'll go all the way after a century+ of futility.
-
The Blackhawks and Cubs are showing the Bears the blueprint for championships.....get a real head coach, get a bunch of quality young players, sprinkle in some veterans....lets hope the Bears pick up on it....
-
Don't forget a strong front office
-
http://www.cnn.com/2015/10/15/entertainment/cubs-back-to-the-future-feat/index.html
Wouldn't it be the most amazing feat of pure luck if this really happens? Back to the Future II had the Cubbies winning the World Series...in 2015! Wouldn't that just be UNreal if it happened? LoL!
BTW, Vegas odds have the Cubs winning it all....
-
Cubs goin down in flames against the Mets...won't have to worry about a World Series if they keep playing like this...
-
We'll get em next year..
-
a 100 years from now it'll still be next year.
-
Keep thinking that...
-
Injuries and other circumstances make it very difficult to get to this point, these opportunities present themselves only so often. Cubs need to get there bats going. Every game is a must win from here on out.. One of the biggest disappointments thus far (for me) is the lack of fire power from Rizzo and Bryant..
-
In Maddon we trust - maybe time for a visit from the magician?
-
With the Blackhawks, you could say we got em right where we want em and they'd take the series. With the Cubbies....well....there's always next season!
-
Agreed. Since the playoffs started, pretty much every bat except Rizzo and Bryant has led the charge. Really hoping to see our fortunes turn when we get back to Wrigley. Tomorrow is not promised. I want it this year.
-
I hope they don't do what the NATs did when they finally made the playoffs for the first time. They came out in Spring Training and declared WS or Bust was their motto. They decided they were a lock to make it with Strausburg coming back and all the young pitching and hitting. Well bust it was and they didn't even win the division.
I hope the Cubs are humble next year and think they have something to prove.
-
Cubs got 37 year old Lackey...ok - hope he has some left in the tank. Traded Castro for a 5th starter and a guy that won't make the team...whatever - got rid of a big contract. Signed 34 year old Ben Zobrist...kind of old but gets on base and is versatile.
Cubs just signed 26 year old Jason Heyward...oh my.
Madden didn't have much pressure last year - that's all changed.
-
Would love to see Clemson pull this out. Hate Alabama. The BS trick kick helped pull them ahead. Don't like it when you gotta pull out tricks to win.....just do not like Alabama....

Lovie Smith expected to become next head coach at Illinois

Two months after he was fired as head coach of the Buccaneers, Lovie Smith is on the verge of getting another head-coaching job.
Smith is expected to be named head coach at Illinois, CBS Chicago and FOX Sports are reporting.
The Illinois football program has gone through a tumultuous year: Coach Tim Beckman was fired just before the start of the 2015 season after he was accused of mistreating players. Interim head coach Bill Cubit led the Illini to a 5-7 season and was told at the end of the year that he’d be permitted to keep the job, but today new Illinois Athletic Director Josh Whitman fired Cubit.
Now Smith, who knows the state well from his time as head coach of the Bears, is poised to become the third Illinois head coach in the last eight months. For the 57-year-old Smith, it’s another opportunity to serve as a head coach after being fired in his two previous jobs. But it’s an odd fit, as Smith hasn’t coached in college since he was the defensive backs coach at Ohio State in 1995. And Smith has never been a college head coach. Smith likely wouldn’t take the Illinois job if he thought he had a chance at another NFL job.
-
Never saw that one coming
-
Me either, but he must have seen the handwriting on the wall. His days as a HC in the NFL were over. We'll see where this career change leads. I am not optimistic. He has never been known as an offensive minded coach.
-
Lovie has the Illini firing on all cylinders. Of course they are playing the football powerhouse Murray St so we will have to wait and see...
-
SEC THAT FROM LAMBEAU!!!!!
-
Dear Jesus, the Cubs are up 4-1, knocked out the Indians ace, no outs, I'm, I'm going into convulsions.
-
Cardinals are my team but I am rooting for them!
I have a ton of family and friends that will be over the moon if they can get this win.
GO CUBS!!!
-
5-1 now!
-
Congrats Cub Fans!!!
They finally did it!
-
It's about time ! One year later when they won it in "Back to the Future 2 !"
-
It was a helluva game!! I never thought in my lifetime I would ever see the Cubs win the world series...
-
Great game! The impossible has happened...the Cubbies are World Series Champs! Congrats to the myriad long looooooooooong suffering Cubbie fans
-
Yes they did.
I was complaining to my brother that it killed me that the cubs lost their lead in the 8th and then the rain delay. He said the rain was the tears of Cubs fans passed, falling from Heaven to give the cubbies a little rest before the big inning Holy Cow!
-
Well, I was about ready to join those Cubs fans in heaven after that 8th inning...
-
My last beer before passing out was a toast to the Greatest of all today's Cubs, Theo.
-
Congrats to the Cubs... I don't watch much baseball but what a great game that was.... :D
-
Theo for POTUS!
-
I think the nation would get behind that nomination!
-
Just heard that Lebron and Wade had a bet. Wade won and Lebron has to wear a full Cubs uniform to the next Bulls vs Cavs game, I assume in Chicago. LOL
-
Pro baseball is about as exciting to watch as golf or bowling.
-
Yeah, don't care for it myself but did watch this series some. Caught most of the last game, heck just for history's sake! Cubs finally break the curse and send the goat off to St.Louis...
-
Baseball got a massive boost with that game. Everyone stood for the anthem. Everyone played hard. It was just baseball, nothing else. James Earl Jones's character in field of dreams has a great line:
"baseball is timeless". Slow as molasses? Yes. Hard to really keep score? Yes. Pure Americana? Nothing but.
-
When the CUBS win the World Series ...
Face it ... you were never bored watching game seven. :D
-
Pro baseball is about as exciting to watch as golf or bowling.
It's really not a sport for dimwits.
-
LOL.
-
I still can't believe it!!!
-
Sounds like the Gophers hired PJ Fleck as HC. I guess they felt it was better to hire the young up and comer over a former national champ like Les Miles.
-
I watched that Cotton Bowl game. Fleck is quite a coach. Hard not to like him. He certainly gets the players motivated. On paper I'd say its a great hire.
-
congrats to the Cubbies for winning the central, again. Dave 23, this one is for you, the Cubs took the team photo with the w on the mound in Busch stadium. Ouch. SOMEBODY is going to take one in the ear hole next year for sure. Fun to watch sports, just sports. I can't believe what Green Bay is proposing. Its just a bomb one way or the other. the next time I want to "link arms" with an unwashed stench encapsulated packer fan will be when I want to transmit my disease in the hopes of watching them expire before my eyes.

Couldn't be sweeter than clinching at St Louis... I ever mention I hate the Cards?
-
Packers and Cards...the two teams I root against the most.
-
Yep!
-
Yep...
-
Packers and Cards...the two teams I root against the most.
Packers and probably have a reason to root against most of the other NFL teams.
-
While being disgusted with the Bears right now, it is good to mention that we clinched in St. Louis Wednesday, and then eliminated them from the psot season Thursday. I'll have to take that as solice...
-
Those guys are fun to watch!
-
Anyone know how to watch ND vs Miami online? I'm not about to spend a fortune just to get a channel to watch a couple games a season. They're going to pay channels just to watch them locally and it's bs, really. Not subscribing to either ESPN or NBCSN. So, where can I get this without paying?
-
All I hear and heard, Strasburg this and Strasburg that.. Well guess what, Hendricks and the Cubs came out on top.. Big first game!
-
Congratulations Cubs!!
Looked like they got the good end of a missed umpires call.
-
The ball went through his legs before the bat hit his helmet but yeah, the umpire missed the call. Cubs were fortunate it wasn't reviewable.
-
One call isn't "the game"... sh!t happens.. How does the rule read? Looked to me like the catcher leaned forward to try to find the ball.
-
https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-nationals-protest-case/
It was a judgement call by the umpire. He said the graze of the face mask had nothing to do with the catcher missing the ball. The graze also had no hindrance of the catcher retrieving the ball and throwing to first. In his judgement the back swing hitting the catcher had no effect on the play. PLAY BALL...
-
The rule is very simple. Bat strikes the catcher your out and no one advances. At least accordig to MLB Network no other factors changed it.
-
This is 6.01(a)(1):
6.01 Interference, Obstruction, and Catcher Collisions
(a) (7.09) Batter or Runner Interference
It is interference by a batter or a runner when:
(1) After a third strike that is not caught by the catcher, the batter-runner clearly hinders the catcher in his attempt to field the ball. Such batter-runner is out, the ball is dead, and all other runners return to the bases they occupied at the time of the pitch;
The Umpire stated that the passed ball had already happened and the catcher missed the ball before the bat struck his helmet. After the bat struck his helmet there was no hesitation or delay of the catcher turning around, retrieving the ball and making a throw to first. There was clearly no hindering the catcher to attempt to field the ball. Had the catcher not immediately fielded the ball and fallen to the ground because the bat hit him then the batter would have been called out. But since the graze did not affect the catchers ability to field the ball the play stands.
That is how simple it is.
-
Please call Harold Reynolds and help his dumb ass understand...
-
That's the wrong rule.
There's another rule about bat hitting catcher
-
You left out the last paragraph of the rule:
Rules 6.03(a)(3) and (4) Comment (Rule 6.06(c) and (d) Comment): If the batter interferes with the catcher, the plate umpire shall call “interference.” The batter is out and the ball dead. No player may advance on such interference (offensive interference) and all runners must return to the last base that was, in the judgment of the umpire, legally touched at the time of the interference.
If, however, the catcher makes a play and the runner attempting to advance is put out, it is to be assumed there was no actual interference and that runner is out—not the batter. Any other runners on the base at the time may advance as the ruling is that there is no actual interference if a runner is retired. In that case play proceeds just as if no violation had been called.
If a batter strikes at a ball and misses and swings so hard he carries the bat all the way around and, in the umpire’s judgment, unintentionally hits the catcher or the ball in back of him on the backswing, it shall be called a strike only (not interference). The ball will be dead, however, and no runner shall advance on the play.
-
We just played the 2nd game of the NLCS and you guys are still talking about one play that happened in the last series.
The Cubs better get their bats going or we're fukked..
-
You can't keep making the pitchng throw perfect games to win. Nobody is hitting
-
You left out the last paragraph of the rule:
Rules 6.03(a)(3) and (4) Comment (Rule 6.06(c) and (d) Comment): If the batter interferes with the catcher, the plate umpire shall call “interference.” The batter is out and the ball dead. No player may advance on such interference (offensive interference) and all runners must return to the last base that was, in the judgment of the umpire, legally touched at the time of the interference.

The ball will be dead, however, and no runner shall advance on the play.
davebear - Lets get the first thing cleared up. 6.03 is not a paragraph of rule 6.01. 6.03 is a totally different rule. The umpire stated that since there was a passed ball before the bat hit the helmet that rule 6.03 was not in play. Even the opening sentence of that rule, "If the batter interferes with the catcher, the plate umpire shall call “interference.” That is the reason why the umpire went to rule 6.01 because the Batter did not interfere with the catchers ability to catch the pitch. It was ruled a passed ball or wild pitch. Now that at bat is over so the bat striking the mask falls under 6.01 which is for Interference, Obstruction, and Catcher Collisions.
Jerry Layne's quote about the play, “Backswing interference is a play where a guy is stealing or there’s a play being made a runner hindering the catch,” Layne said afterward. “It was a wild pitch and went past him. That is no longer in that particular description, in my judgment. In my judgment, the passed ball changed the whole rule around to where, in my judgment, it had nothing to do with everything. Therefore, it didn’t have any effect on it. In my judgment.”
[…]
“When the ball gets past him, all right, in my judgment he didn’t have any more opportunity after he had a chance to field the ball,” Layne said. “There was no further play that could have been made on it. The graze of the helmet didn’t have anything to do, in my judgment, with anything at all, with that particular play. I understand, it’s pretty much my judgment. I got together and found everybody was in agreement. That’s what we went with.”
I still don't see why it is so hard to figure out. There are two rules. One was not in play because it was a passed ball/wild pitch before the bat hit the mask.
-
Gotta score some runs tonight... Can't keep the pitchers in these high leverage situations. Yankees did it last night. We need to wake up the bats
-
If the Cubs lose tonight it is over. They need to win to have any chance at this thing.
-
WML
Just going with what the panel on MLB Network said.
If the ump is right as you posted so be it.
-
Absolutely! Win tonight or pack it in..
-
Sportster - I watched the ND v. Miami OH game on youtube shortly after it was played.
-
Oh yeah?? I usually look but get a ton of stupid links that don't pan out. They usually redirect you to their site and want you to sign up. And there are a TON of links like that. How you found that game, I don't know....
-
The Cubs are doing their best to give the division to the brewers. Quintana sucks ass. We get roughed up by a sh!tty Sox team with the division on the line..
-
I have become numb to the Cubs ups and downs this year. Still have the best year of any team in the National League, how I hope they lull me all the way to the World Series.
-
Kyle Fuller caught a foul ball (https://twitter.com/LizLoza_FF/status/1047336538651078656).
Now if only he could have caught...
Should be an interesting offseason for the northsiders.
-
Cubs need a leadoff hitter...plain and simple. An agitator - a guy who gets on base a lot....like Dexter Fowler - I do not want Fowler back, but someone similar. He would play 2nd of or CF.
I am guessing they sign either Machado or probably Harper.
The pitching was fine.
But - do you continue with: Schwarber, Happ, Russell, Contreas (terrible 2nd half). And Bryant was shell of his former self - automatic out.
-
I guess its best the Cubs were one and done rather than to extend the misery over a playoff series with the Brewers.
Their hitters just faded in September. All of them.
-
Yep, I agree. I'm certain they would've been swept by the brewers. Baez is about the only one that held it together. Few years ago seemed as if they could manufacture runs, now it's almost as if more times than not they go for the long ball.....
-
I haven't paid attention to the nba since oh...1998. But I love this Jimmy Butler drama. All the Chicago talkers are telling the Mpls talkers we told you so. Butler goes to practice, plays with 2nd and 3rd stringers, and dominates both scrimmages even though he only shot one free throw in both wins. Cusses out the big money players and rips the GM and head coach face to face mic dropping "I run this sh!t" before leaving the court. Delay the trade t-pups, this is entertaining as hell.
-
Just glad Butler is not here in Chicago. It turned out to be a great trade. Markanen and Lavine - two core players and they add Parker.
-
LOL. Sorry but Parker doesnt help the Bulls one bit. A waste of money IMHO.
-
The Axe finally comes back home. Grabbing it back in Madison makes the beatdown all the more sweeter. F*ck Wisconsin.
-
ND getting their just dues.
-
Committee did a great job getting two of the best four teams in the country into the final four.
On another note, Josh Jacobs would look WONDERFUL in a Bears uni.
-
The same two teams in it for 3 straight years now and fourth they've met for the championship. Parity does not exist in college ball.....

Notre Dumb was the most over rated team ever. You have to stop playing the west cost teams and Army, Navy etc. Michigan was their toughest opponent - Michicken was destroyed yesterday.
-
That's a ridiculous statement, really. What are they supposed to do, blow games? Is it their fault that USC and Fla St weren't worth sh&t this year? They did play Michigan who had supposedly CFB best defense. They also beat Stanford and Northwestern, neither of whom are bad teams at all. They did what they had to do to get where they were. Kelly blew it with his sh+t calls and they quit blitzing which let Clemsons freshman QB throw all over them. When they were blitzing they were holding him back. They quit for whatever reason. 3-3 when they blitzed...when they quit, it got out of hand....
-
Well ND has to stop playing the Ball U's The following week after ND escaped by Ball U the Alabama of the north IU demolished Ball U. Their schedule is horrible. Even traditional rival USC had a down year via some of their fans I know. Even OK with the Heisman QB couldnt play with Alabuma.
-
I think you can acknowledge that the ND schedule was not as tough as the other competition, but these schedule are set years in advance. FSU has been strong, Michigan, etc. But it wasn't the schedule that an SEC team plays, because the SEC places so many teams in the top 15 year after year.
-
Everyone plays cake opponents. Alabama this year played Citadel, La Lafayette and Mercer this year, three cake teams. Clemson played Kent St, Citadel, FURMAN, and Duke.
-
I'm a big ND fan and I've accepted that this is probably as good as they can get. Their top CB Love went out for the 2nd quarter and Clemson abused the backup when he came in. 3 TDS in that 2nd quarter until love got back in after half time. ND will just never have the depth to compete against elite squads because of the admission requirements.
Everything has to go perfect to even get to the playoffs.
-
Would agree totally with that, Octagon. I don't know where they go from here for next season. Get back in it to only once again get spanked by those loaded teams which are basically semi pro? And they're loading up again with recruits so ND will never get another title. I'm going to guess they'll maybe win 8 games next season at which point they'll get rid of Kelly. What they really need is to change their requirements for football recruits and hire a top notch recruiting coach and get some of those 5 stars. But they won't do that because it lowers the schools avg. So this season is as good as it's going to get for them anymore, I agree totally...
-
I'd stick with Kelly. I think he's a good coach, especially since he had his feet put to the fire a few years ago. Only thing I think he needs to do is have chip long install a more gimmicky passing offense. The blue chip OL prospects are going to get a little more scarce without the allure of heistand coaching them up. They can't be fairly vanilla and hope to win on the elite level.
Other than that, it's just Kelly doing his best and hoping for no major injuries and the ball bouncing their way. (The kick return fumble getting overturned was criminal).
Maybe Urban Meyer wants the job in a couple years, that's the only clear upgrade that I could see happening.
-
Anyone watch the Alliance league game?
It wasn't to bad. I would compare it to NFL pre-season games after the starters are out. It was a bit sloppy but should improve as the season goes forward. Looks like they have a lot of borderline NFL talent. The players who stand out will likely end up making the bottom of NFL rosters.
-
The officiating in the Memphis/Birmingham was brutal.
The replay official should never work again.
-
Maybe a kicker will surface.
-
I see the NFLN is replaying games.

I watched, like you said, wasn't bad. I was switching back and forth to UFC..
-
The NFL wants to use this as a developmental league. The number one pick in their draft ended up as the Redskins starting QB at the end of the last season. Josh Johnson.
-
Johnson has been around the league forever. But this is a great opportunity for those that are on practice squads or the street, never quite getting their opportunity.
-
Don't forget the development of officials, coaches and other front office positions.
-
I know a replay official who won’t be getting a promotion...

Coolest Cat in the majors.
-
Cubs have become unbearable to watch. Turning into batting practice for the opposing teams. The only reason the cubs aren't 6 or 7 back is the Brewers have been sucking as well..
-
All-star break is coming up - these guys need some time off
-
Joe Maddon can't fill out a lineup card or handle pitching. That kid yesterday should have been told pitch around Bell. You don't grove pitches down the middle to Bell. Joe has been terrible handling the pitchers this year.
Team is falling apart. AND 3 years now and no leadoff hitter. Theo and Jed asleep at the switch.
-
They tend to be an August team so we'll see.
-
I bet if you look back over the last few years they also seem to be at their worst the two weeks prior to the All Star Game. Seems like every year that suck the worst about this time.
-
Lost to the sox today. Like I said, these guys are hard to watch. They need the break. Hope you're right Bill. Epstein talking changes if the they don't show some life. If these guys were playing they'd be up 10. I'll for sure take a surge after the break though..
-
No lead off hitter for 3 years now. Schwarber should be in the American League DHing. Schawarber is a strong liability in the field.
As you can see the Cubs have no pitchers or outfielders in the Allstar game. That says a lot.
Obviously Yu Darvish has become a major fiasco as he can not pitch - clueless on how to get hitters out consistently. Great stuff, but trowing pitches down the middle to guys like the Pirates Bell is moronic.
-
I see the Cards are back in second place. Those fukkers just never seem to go away..
-
Cards have really good players. A lot of them underachieve.
Look at the Cards pitching - #1 draft pick after #1 draft pick. Great pitchers.
-
A race between the Cubs and the Bears to see who can suck the most. Hammels was terrible last night. Then on top of that the cubs bats can't score off a crappy brewers pitching staff. Two games last weekend they went scoreless. Pathetic!
-
Cubs woes are directly pointed a Maddon with his major blunders. Lets lead Almora off with his .270 on base %. Lots pull Darvish early and keep Lester in 2 innings too long and give 8 earned runs.
-
Cubs are just about done.. Hanging on by a thread for a wild card. Sad part is, they should've, could've, been up in that division by 8 or 10. Pathetic!
-
When Javy was hot - and Heyward was hot - they looked unstoppable - tough to watch when they look burnt out
-
Train wreck!!
-
Maddon isn't swinging the bat. What the H happened to Bryant? He's done almost nothing for months. Rizzo's power has fizzled.
This happened last year in September too - Cubs just stopped hitting.
-
Let them have their PEDs back
-
Cubs are just about done.. Hanging on by a thread for a wild card. Sad part is, they should've, could've, been up in that division by 8 or 10. Pathetic!
I can count about 25 games Maddon has made major blunders. Sticking with guys too long etc. - it's crazy how bad he has managed this year.
-
While I agree that Maddon hasn't been stellar this season, I agree with Dallas, where the heck have the bat's been?
-
Well, that should just about do it for the Cubs. Let the division slip right through their hands. This is the time of year that you win. We're now in third place, pathetic! Hey, let's not forget... "next year"... Yeah, right!
I guess they could start rippen off some wins and make it interesting, but does anyone really think they would go to Washington and win?
-
It was nice to see all those runs against the Pirates, but lack of production and an effective closer have been the achilles heel.
-
So is Jake Fromm the #1 pick?
Someone will do well to draft him.
-
Fromm is great.
If Piniero isn’t the answer, Georgia’s kicker should be a Bear...
-
Has Joe Maddon been fired yet. Completely out managed.
-
Honestly, I couldn't watch anymore of this train wreck called the Cubs..

-
Not a good year for sports in Chicago so far.
-
I never watch baseball, except when my kids played ball.... That being said, I stopped on the Cubs/Cardinals game and couldn’t believe some of the pitches that guys were swinging at. Stuff we teach little leaguers not to swing at, they were swinging and missing!
I will say, that Darvish guy can throw it. He has a lot of movement on his pitches.
-
You hit it on the head....Baez, Schwarber, Bryant, Contreas swing at pitches 2 feet outside of the strike zone - just suckers for sliders - it's horrific.
-
Sometimes they let the close ones go by - when the aggressive hitters can hit balls that are a few inches out of the zone
-
Getting some Shawon-o-meter flashbacks. Some of the pitches he hacked at were "juuust a bit outside"
-
Almora has been really bad this year as well.....I also blame the new hitting coach.
-
There's a ton of blame to go around. Bye bye Maddon..
-
At least they wont be beat up in the playoffs and shamed. Thats a good thing.
-
Cubs saw the second fewest amount of fast balls in 2019 as a team. Too many jokers like Baez, Bryant, Schwarber, Almora, Russell, Happ - ALL swing at sliders 2 feet out of the strike zone. AND pitchers know that group will swing at the high fastballs as well.
-
With Cubs hitters it's feast or famine. Trib says they may trade Kris Bryant.
-
I like Bryant, but he has been so inconsistent..
-
Led the division most of the year and here we are...
-
But it was entertaining - ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED??!!
-
Two years in row Bryant was hurt...shoulder and being hit by a ball in the face last year and knee this year. Cost him all his power. GREAT player when healthy.
He passed up a $300 million life time contract 2 years ago.
Pitching staff must be over hauled. By Hammels.
Yu, Lester, Hendricks, Santana....maybe Chatwood will be the rotation. But I hope they add a guy to the front of the rotation.
Bullpen must be over hauled.
-
If the Cubs can retain Bryant and Castellenos and put out a lineup with them and Rizzo, Contreras, Schwarber, and Baez. Throw in Hoerner and Heyward and that's quite a lineup assuming they stay healthy and the new batting coach instills discipline at the plate.
I like middle relief. Starters are aging and is Kimbrel the answer at closer?
-
been watching the Bulls pre-season. The big men, Carter & Markkanen have not played well. Despite this the Bulls look good. Coby White had a real good game against Atlanta tonight.
-
I was blacked out
-
I keep thinking I'll get back into watching the Bulls but they've sucked so bad and the NBA has been horrible..
-
My son is really into the NBA and is always asking questions about the old players from the previous century.
But I really can't get into watching today's games. It's all 3's and layups/dunks. I guess the 2 point jump shot doesn't fit in with today's analytics.
-
That's what I'm hearing. They either shoot a 3 pointer or drive the basket to automatically draw a foul...
-
If they stay reasonably healthy they should be competitive this year. And yeah that seems to be the NBA game. They shot 46 3's against Hotlanta. The rest of the League was way better last year
-
Re: Bulls, haven't cared since '98
Check out the center "toss" (https://twitter.com/Adoughty88/status/1185406084510552065). Not sure if the LT blew an ACL because of it.
-
Congratulations to the Liberal Washington DC National and their win over conservative Texas
-
Watching Brooklyn against the Celtics ... like why bother ?
Do some teams enjoy being **** slapped ?
-
The first USFL game I watched in its entirety was the Championship game last night. It ended but being a pretty damn good close game.

We'll get em next year..
Its always been next year for the Cubs. Forever and a day.
-
My mother died right before the 2005 WS and it was good medicine for me that the White Sox won the WS in 2005.
-
March Madness
-
Does USFL allow fans at the games?
There can’t be more than 100 in the stands today.
-
They should charge like 5 bucks for tickets and give beer specials. They should actually try and fill up the stadiums as much as possible.
When we had an AFL2 team we used to pack the place. There would be 8 to 10 thousand a game in an arena that only held 10 thousand.
Then they started stopping beer sales really early and got rid of the party atmosphere to be more family friendly. It lasted a few more years then folded.
-
Memphis is one of the host cities. I haven’t been out to a game yet, but I think they have $10 tickets. Not sure about beer specials though…
Memphis is also on a 5 game win streak after starting 0-3, so attendance for their games should be increasing…
-
I've enjoyed every USFL and XFL game I've seen because the alternative is soccer.
Or watching paint dry on a wall.
-
You don’t get the NBA?
-
I thought for sure Illinois was going to lose today but they pulled it off. Great game.
I like the new QB. That 4th down throw while getting hit though!
-
Luke can play. He was never gonna start at Ole Miss though.
-
Don’t watch a whole lot of college football but this Oregon Colorado game will be interesting.
Shader Sanders is kind of a wildcard and I’ve seen his games but Bo Nix is who I want to check out for the Bears.
-
Oregon would beat this Bears team handily
-
A lot of good QB prospects the Bears can
ruin draft next year.

Weird contract. He only gets $2mil a year then the balance at the end of the contract.

No, he gets paid over 20 years with $680M in years 11-20.
-
I don't like this loophole. There needs to be something in these contracts that doesn't allow such a a large deferral. I love the opportunity for all teams to be competitive, and not just watch the Dodgers every year in the World Series because they have the deepest pockets and a system that allows them to get around the luxury tax.

It’s not a loophole. It’s specifically written in the CBA.
LA is not in the World Series every year. If making the World Series is a proxy for competitiveness, baseball looks good. 2/3rds of all the teams have made the WS in the last 20 years. I don’t know but I doubt the other, salaried capped sports, are better.
-
I guess the decision to leave Florida State out of the playoffs was a good one. Damn they got smoked in their bowl game.
-
FL state were missing numerous players - several of which were first rounders. Georgia piled it on because they wanted to make statement too.
-
Just got back from the Sugar Bowl - poor Longhorns. Penix absolutely destroyed their defense. I'm surprised that they somehow fought back after a series of unlikely events that made the game come down to the wire.
This Penix kid is the real deal. I know he's 24 and has some surgeries, but he's a talent. Excellent pocket prescence. Avoided the rare situations when UT was able to apply pressure by getting the ball downfield with his feet. Also had a few called runs where he picked up big yardage. His stats prior to the game didn't show that. Of course he had the best O-line in college football (they won some award for that).
And what an arm. He's got me incredible pinpoint long ball accuracy. I thought he was hitting the same guy #1 Odunze early on for big gains. But those early strikes were to not to his top receiver. He used all of his receivers. Longhorns wide receivers that I was very high on - disappointed.
Penix will probably not get drafted before Williams, Maye or Daniels but he's a definite first rounder.
-
Wouldn’t be surprised if Penix goes earlier than expected.
-
Michigan is going to get stomped like a narc at a biker rally.

Not if that dude Edwards keeps scoring 40+ yard TDs.
-
2 carry’s
2 TDs
87 yards.
JFC!
-
I was expecting a baseline rushing defense for Washington. Good grief!
-
Now a 59 yard run from Corum. They are averaging 19 yards per carry.
-

Hmmm.... Nothing much else to say..
-
Hmmm.... Nothing much else to say..
There is one more thing to say.
Has Matt been fired yet?
-
It looked like Michigan had the right plan to beat Washington. Penix was a mess by the 4th quarter. Michigan pass rush was killing Penix
-
Football can be more simple than we think.
Michigan had pass rush up the middle in Penix face and bracketed the receivers.
-
And the defense hurt Penix bad.
-
Defense wins championships....this is why Michigan won....
-
Okay fellas
Who the hell boos the widow of Jerry Krause? Dude brought the Bulls 6 NBA Championships.
-
I'd say that's pretty classless..
-
Yes tastless, but the other side of the coin is after the 6 championships he destroyed the team and they have been irrelevant since
-
Kraus didn't dismantle the Bulls after the run. Jackson wanted his job and total control. MJ backed him and the both of them sullied Kraus' achievement.
-
A lot of egos came into play...
-
That was one of the only times I actually watched pro ball, during both of the 3yr runs of the Bulls.....
-
I tried to never miss a game after Jordan came aboard..
-
In some ways Jordan was more fun to watch his first couple of years.
It was Reggie Theus shooting threes, a rebounder and Jordan doing everything else.
-
It was easy for me to jump off the bandwagaon completely after 98. I enjoyed watching those Durham/Larrivee/Red Kerr WGN/WFLD telecasts pre champ days. I remember they played Jordan at point along side Hodges for a stretch and he would run off triple doubles like it was nothing.
-

Reggie Theus and Michael Jordan never played together. And, Theus rarely shot threes. Other than that, spot on.
-
Pretty sure John Paxon was early on, Oakely, not remembering who else... I think Hodges came a little later (few years). I think it was a couple years before Pippen came on board.. That was some good basketball...
-
I see Ryne Sanberg is fighting cancer. Cubbie through and through... Great player.. I wish him the best..
-
I said it on the Cubs board, and I’ll say it here…
If you haven’t had a PSA test, get one…now…and keep that **** monitored…
-
I get mine tested every year....
Lung cancer is a bit worrisome as well. I know several people that are dealing with that. I used to smoke some, wasn't a heavy smoker by any stretch, quit 20 some odd years ago.. Ya never know.. I do run every day on the elliptical, lift weights, still practice some martial arts, basically try to stay in good health... Ya just never know.. Thing with lung cancer, usually you don't have symptoms til it's in it's latter stages.. None of it's any good..
-
I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2020 and had my prostate removed in 2021. Thank God, that treated it successfully, I still test every 6 months as a precaution. I was fortunate to have caught it in the early stages. My heart is with Ryno, definitely my favorite Cub of the mid 80's.
-
Glad you're doing well Griz..
-
I test every 3 months as part of active surveillance…diagnosed in 2019…
-
Wow, glad you're doing well too, Dave...
-
Last test I had done was a couple years ago. PSA was real low. I'm probably due for another round, but I hate doctors. My bigger concern is my heart. Going to have one of those scans done, the cheap ones that look for plaque. I don't exercise much, we walked a ton in the summer but the winters another story. Need to get back to Planet Fitness....

Do you like hospitals better than doctor visits? I don't know how many of my younger co-workers that I've had to lecture over the years to get their annual physicals. I doubt anyone here needs to be lectured...
We can't lose any more of us until we at least win another Super Bowl.
-
I recently got lectured by my doctor on the dangers of salt and carbs. Convinced me to reduce both.
Sodium is a real killer. If you carry extra pounds around the middle it’s a sure sign your liver can’t handle the sodium you’re consuming.

Mongo became a legend that day.
-
I absolutely love this Super Bowl matchup.
If the 9ers win, a blue state gets to dunk on you maga fuckups.
If the Chiefs win Talyor Swift gets to dunk on you maga fuckups. Plus blue city KC.
-
And I do very much support Mongo’s induction into the Football Hall of Fame while he is still alive.
He deserves it.
