Clark, this is how it's gone on forever. In fact, prior to a few years ago the signing deadline was the following year's draft, so quite often elite prospects wouldn't start playing for over a year from their draft date. Not playing a month or two of low-level ball isn't going to hurt them. And the reality is the longer they wait, the bigger the bonus they usually end up with.
