I agree.  In the draft you overpay by a hundred thousand or so for one year.  In the free agency market, you can overpay by many millions for several years.

Clearly doesn't want to go to school, and thinks he can negotiate through social networking.

Bully, don't you think the Cubs are negotiating with his agent or family rather than with him personally?

Maples' mechanics remind me of a cross between Jon Lieber and Wade Miller. Of course, both had surgery at some point.

I could live with a career similar to Lieber's.

I'd like to see video of Maples from behind the mound so you can get a clearer picture of where his arm/shoulder angle is.

I can definately see the Jon Lieber comparison, especially in the leg kick and turn part of his windup.

That dude would have made for an awfully tall kicker.

Hey Chris.. I definitely assume the Cubs are working with his agent, but I also believe in an 18 year-olds mind, he might believe he can play the game through a public forum like Twitter.  Announcing he can't wait to go to campus (on Thursday) a few hours before the deadline comes off as unique timing for me.

I love all the guys we're signing, and all the money were tossing around on kids... I just think this might be a case where he's likely to sign, and may not need to throw more money out there at the last minute.

If they sign Maples, I don't think they will sign Jacques.  To me he sounds like a fall back position for the Cubs.

I hope they sign both.

Count me among the folk that would love to sign Dunston Jr for sentimental sake, but I just don't see the upside for the huge bonus they're probably about to pay him...Of course, if they're signing everyone else, can't really say they should have saved it for so and so.

The #Cubs and 2nd-rounder Dan Vogelbach, a #Florida signee, have agreed to a deal. Now comes the signing part.

I'm hearing that the deal, if approved, is worth around $1.6 million for Vogelbach. Again, should officially sign.

Vogelbach in German means bird brook or stream.

1.5 is way excessive.  Maybe .5.
