Rumor has it that Brandon Moore is looking for $5M a year.  That could explain why the Bears haven't made a move on him, and also why he's still on the market.

It might be a lot farther down than just 3rd. IMHO it might be as low as 4th,5th or 6th. I am not liking this Williams pickup for MLB. Personally I view him more as a disaster waiting to happen. Hey, maybe I will be wrong but old habits are hard to break. Then there is the issue of the DE situation with Izzy. I just see upgrades needed that potentially could demand attention before Center.

If you were to upgrade both OGs sufficiently I see no reason for drafting a Center high in the draft. OTOH this year does seem to be a good year to do it. With Barrett Jones dropping like a lead balloon I could easily see Emery risking #50 on him.

I agree, I meant to say 3rd priority on the O-line.

And after guard we still need a backup QB, probably another defensive lineman (Idonije kills 2 birds with one stone), young LB not another FA, young CB not another FA, speed WR, and maybe another TE.

Where does replacing Garza rank in the list...probably somewhere in the middle?

Well Brandon Marshall had a lot of baggage before we picked him up, but he has been pretty good, so fingers crossed Williams cleans it up the same.

The thing I don't think a lot of people realize about the C position is the mental aspect.

There were a lot of mental f*ck-ups on our OL last year and the year before that.  A LOT.  Yeah some of the mistakes were just undertalented and/or injured guys not physically being able to do the job but you look at how some of the pass rushes and blitzes were picked up (or not) and there was clearly a lack of on-field leadership of the OL which traditionally is the C's role.  I just have never seen Garza having the mental capacity to grasp that part of the game.  Plus I know Garza was flagged multiple times for false starts.  C'mon man...  you're the GD center and you're false starting?

That's where I think we need to get better at the C position even more than the size/strength/age stuff.  Garza can snap the ball and block, but there's more to being a good C than that.

I don't think any of us are qualified to comment on the on field leadership or lack thereof of Garza.  LG was a revolving door and RT was a mess midway through the season and then we lost the RG for the last month or so.

I saw Garza pass block every game and I see a guy who has pretty good technique and often slides off a man to pick up the free rusher.  His major weakness is not getting enough push off the LOS.

Now, if you want to look at the cold hard stats.  Garza gave up 2 sacks...in 16 starts.  He also had 4 false starts in those 16 starts - no holds...no personal fouls.

4 false starts isn't great but its quite an improvement over the guy who he replaced who'd do it every other weekend.

I'm convinced the best thing for both Garza and the team would be for him to play out the last year of his contract as a backup at C and G. Nothing more.

The coaches may see it differently and/or we may not have a choice as far as being able to bring in anyone else to play the position better with our limited draft picks this year, but that's how I see it.

If the Bears were able to somehow sign that LG from the Jets (Moore), draft Jones to play center, and move Garza back over to RG I might be inclined to think that'd work along with drafting a kid like Wharton from Kentucky. I think I could live with that. I am really beginning to see the Bears drafting defensive players, or moving down out of 20 if somebody they want isn't available.

 How much defense we have is irreverent if JCut is always off the field ...

 and the defense is always on the field.

 Fuuck that fuuckin noise. We've already been wasting years with that philosophy.

He got me too.  He said third pick not third round pick.  Your third pick is your third pick regardless of what round it is in.  JJ is obtuse like that...
