He has trade value - the question is how much someone (hopefully not us) is going to be willing to pay for the hope that the 2022 guy comes back. Velocity is there, everything else is a mess.

Martinez and Rizzo were in the final year of their contracts and had a club option that ownership needed to pick up in July.

That’s why a move was made now.

In last five seasons, Nats went 26-34 in 2020, 65-97 in 2021, 55-107 in 2022, 71-91 in both 2023 and 2024.

In 2025, only the Rockies have a worse record in NL than the Nats. Lately, Nats have lost 23 of last 32.

No, the rebuild is not going okay. Rather, sustained futility. Time to make some moves and let other guys take over. Yes, can blame ownership too but lots of blame to go around.

I agree, they're always dangerous and Woodruff is a guy I was hoping we'd take a flyer on. Of course, his velocity was down three ticks from before surgery and this is a shoulder problem, so he's probably going to have to make an adjustment to much less velocity. But he was a true ace before, so he might still be a very solid pitcher.

I'm going to have to owe Jed a few apoligies for at least a couple of the things I had to say about his moves this offseason, but it's just a tad bit too bad we couldn't have figured out someone besides Paredes to send Houston in the Tucker trade.  He'd be nice to have right now.  :)

Heh heh, yeah.  Thinking that *IF* it was really Shaw they wanted more than Smith, maybe then Paredes wouldn't have been involved.  maybe they'd have been happy to take, like Birdsell or Luke Little or Cole Matthis instead, or whatever!
