I'm sorry.  I did know he attended the Charlie Kirk memorial service.  It just never occurred to me that anyone would consider a memorial service for someone who was assassinated for his political beliefs to be a "political Rally".

Some things are more important than games.  Even professional games.  I remember when Sandy Koufax was strongly criticized for refusing to pitch in the World series on Yom Kippur.  I thought that was an honorable thing to do, although since I was not Jewish, it meant nothing to me personally.

If Bregman has a problem with that, that is HIS problem.

I have been back and forth on this but I am clearly leaning toward they will keep Nico (unless there is an offer that blows them away) because of the uncertainty of trying to experiment this year and they will get a draft pick with a qualifying offer?  I suspect Counsel will be sitting down with Shaw this weekend and bringing an outfield glove.  If Bregman is worried about sharing an infield with Shaw he did not do his homework on most of the rest of the Cub's infield

Public figures sometimes have huge public turnouts. See Dr. King’s funeral, Muhammad Ali, Michael Jackson, various Popes, etc. People want to pay respects to those they admire, even if you or I have a different point of view.

That does not turn a memorial service into a “political rally” even though you personally don’t care for the person. That was the forum that the family chose for their memorial.  We should defer to the family.

Perhaps we can flip the narrative and try to be respectful for a change? (hoping in vain, probably).

As to the “Turning Point” event, it is my understanding that was not a baseball forum. Doubtful that Alex Bregman will give a hoot about that in the Cubs clubhouse.

Also, the reason I suspect Hoerner will be traded as opposed to Shaw is simply he is a free agent, may want to play SS and the Cubs can't trade Smith, Caissie and Shaw within 12 months!

I don't think anyone has said that Bregman is worried about sharing an infield with Shaw, by the way. The fact that he comes from a liberal Democratic family does not suggest that. There may or may not be an issue with Shaw's very public expression of his right wing politics with one or more members of the team, but none of us has any insight into that. I assume that other players woiuld not let that get in the way unless Shaw makes it an issue in some way.

I think trading Hoerner would create a much larger outcry than trading Shaw.
