I know Austin has a 40-man spot now but think he’s more of a non-roster type competing to make club on a “make good” basis. Just don’t see any big commitment to him as a key righty bat off the bench.

Not sure what is in his contract but very possible his $1.25 is not guaranteed and could be one of those cba-required severance pay deals if released during spring training.

That's a helpful point.

heh heh, it would be fun to have one of these guys who actually does end up hitting and being useful.

2025:  Jon Berti, Justin Turner, Gage Workman, Brujan
2024:  Garrett Cooper
2023; Luis Torrens, Eric Hosmer, Edwin Rios, Trey Mancini, Miles Mastrobuoni....

I'm just so used to Hoyer's end-of-bench fill-ins being so terrible that we just assume Austin will be about as productive and as short-lived as Cooper, Workman Berti, Torrens, Mancini, and Rios.

But it's not impossible that sometimes a guy comes over from Japan and might actually be good in his selective protect LHP-only role?
