But yeah, most likely a kind of Patrick Wisdom only with less power.  Low bar, but even Patrick Wisdom would have been better than Justin Turner. 

Baseball Reference has NPB stats, but there's also a Japan baseball dedicated site.

20% of the 40-man is empty and we're swimming in money - it's a negligible risk move. And he's very, very unlikely to be worse than Turrner.

Oh, sorry - misread that. Not sure, actually - I don't know an English website that has splits.

In Japanese and not too detailed, but here are some splits for Austin in NPB. He continues to be much better against LHP.

Michael King goes back to the Padres. 3 years, $75 million.

I wouldn't have wanted the Cubs to give him that contract. But at the same time, it would be nice if Hoyer would make that kind of commitment for some player he likes. But he's too scared.

I would have been fine with that for King if it weren't for the opt-outs (which are after years 1 and 2 FTR - after year 3 wouldn't make much sense  ;D ).

It's pretty much Gallen or bust for the Cubs at this point. That, or goodbye to what's left of the farm for a flawed MORP with 2 or 3 years of control.

Bad news in that Padres were not assumed to be big-ticket spend-whatever competitors.  If there's only four guys left, and we're bidding against Yankees, Mets, Phillies, Baltimore, Mets, Detroit just to start with, and who knows whom else, how safe is it that Jed's conservative intelligent spending, never give an inflated above-calculated-value contract approach, is going to get one of the four guys left?  Having Padres get him doesn't thin the competition pool.
