Does anyone have any knowledge of what Miami's likely Cub targets would be? Was Miami the team that asked for Shaw last year?

I would be pretty happy if Cubs sign Bregman and use Shaw as centerpiece for Cabrera.

Wow!  Interesting.  Timing included.  We'll see if it happens, and if he fails his physical, as was true with Luzardo last year.

Google AI on his stuff.  Says Cabrera ranks as a top-quartile groundball guy, so that fits our defense.  Says his fastball gets hit hard.  He's fast, but sounds like it's his finesse offspeed stuff that actually gets K's and outs.  Seems like an interesting upside guy. 

can't imagine he won't cost a mint.

Cabrera arb projection is $3.7 M.  That’s about the same as Hoby Milner’s contract.

So, lots of money available to spend on a bat—if can pull that off.

Alrighty, Jed, let's see what you've cooked up. Glad to see the Cubs be aggressive on the trade market, getting a premier target.

Thinking it's Caissie that headlines? Plus Triantos, Long, and a lottery-ticket arm?

Still need to spend quite a bit of $$$, we should be more prospect-limited than cash-limited.

Yeah, still $32M left just to nudge the first lux, which they can easily exceed. 

Reb, you've been calling the "trade" approach, and I've been skeptical (and reluctant).  You are vindicated!  You called it.  :):). Way to go.  We'll see if the oft-injured Cabrera will pass his physical, obviously. 

But yeah, that makes it pretty obvious they're gearing to sign a bat.  In some ways this kinda flips the logic.  If he traded Shaw in this deal, for example, Boras knows Hoyer is committed to either Bichette or Bregman.  If he traded Caissie, and Moises, then you're kinda committed to Bellinger or Tucker, I think...

Cabrera also is under club control through 2028, so that's definitely a nice aspect.  Probably has plenty of upside to take things to another level too.  Have to see what we give up, but in general, I don't hate this one.  Just hopefully the extra dollars get well spent somehow.

Disagree that trading Caissie points to Belli/Tuck. If we do sign a bat, I think one of Bo/Breg more likely.

2026 OF is Happ, PCA, Seiya. Mo is full-time DH. Hoerner traded to restock farm. That would be ideal, IMO.

Yeah, probably something more like Rojas instead of Triantos, and a better arm.

Really hoping we hold onto Wiggins and Conrad.

I’m guessing Caissie, Rojas, Long and perhaps another piece. Hope none of the 2015 drafted OFers. Maybe Anthony Bender in the deal if Cubs including a major league pitcher?

1.  If you're trying to win, no point in trading Hoerner.  Keep Hoerner, add a good bat at 3B or RF either way, and lets have a great season.  Can re-sign Hoerner after the season, he's still only 28, so he's got a lot of good career left.  Get good, then stay good!

2. Your Happ-PCA-Seiya OF with Mo at DH could work really well.  Particularly with Bichette at 3B, or Bregman.  I think Tucker in RF would work fine, too, with Shaw still at 3rd and Seiya at DH, and Mo as depth bat. 

Obviously we'll need to see whether Moises is still a Cub after this deal goes through, if it goes through.
