It's early but that feels like a pretty big win. A big psychological difference between getting swept and losing 2 of 3, which in Atlanta is nothing to cry over. Offense is still comatose but the pitching is really overperforming. I think Brown has legit turned the corner but the pitching is going to see some reversion soon, so hopefully the bats wake up before that happens.

Palencia threw 14 fastballs, 13 were 100-101 MPH.

Brown 8 change-ups (3 for strikes, 2 of which led to groundouts) in 67 pitches.

That's very interesting.  Not many strikes, though, so not sure how often he's going to throw that.  But maybe.  Maybe he can throw enough for strikes, and some of the non-strikes will get chase, so that it's sometimes productive.

Agree.  Winning a tight, low-scoring one is helpful for sure.  Playoff games are often like that.  Another game where other team's defense being worse than ours helped Cubs to win.  (Even after this 5-game streak with little hitting, Cubs as a team are still top-7 in most of the hitting stats other than batting average.  (runs, OBP, OPS, slug, HR). 

HItting often goes up and down with pitching.  DeGrom, Sale, Cubs have faced some elite guys this week, and some others pitching well.

Interestingly enough, the Cubs will be at ERA-disadvantage in each of the White Sox games.  Cabrera-Taillon-Rea are collectively well over 3 ERA-units higher than the guys the White Sox will be pitching, despite the ERA-help that our guys get from our defense.  White Sox have a winning record, this isn't the bad team it was.  Could be another difficult series where scoring runs will be challenging.

For a lot of pitchers, a change up is a "chase pitch" that is meant to be out of the strike zone when the batter swings at it.  I don't know if that he the way Brown throws it, but I think that it is likely.

I wish you all the best of luck this weekend. But I hope you go to sleep sad every night this weekend. This is not the Wsox team of the last couple years…. They have some great energy and surprisingly good fundamentals.

Cubs win!  Nice to get a bunch of hits, and score a bunch of runs, and to come back and win after they got a nice lead but then Cabrera gave it right back.

3 up, 3 in for Sox off Taillon.  Another 1st inning walk for him scores.  Taillon is a nice craftsman when he can locate his pitches, but he's seemed to struggle with his location more this season.  Hope Cubs can get some runs off 1.59-ERA Martin.

Taillon gives up a couple more HR.  He's also given up a variety of warning-tracking flies earlier.  5-0 Sox in the 3rd.  He may need to suck it up and just give up the HR's and forget about ERA or run differential and just cover some innings.
