Why do Cubs' hitters fail to challenge so often? Opponents challenge constantly and overturn calls left and right.

So enjoyable watching people like Swanson refuse to take a walk to get PCA up with multiple runners on.

Swanson has hit a couple of rockets today.

Bregman three deep flies, one guy reached over wall to snag a HR.

Nice.

9-6, Thielbar gives up a bomb.  6 more outs to get, this should be a stresser as usual.

9-7, three up, two out for Thielbar.  7HR in 24 innings isn't that great....

Dansby!  Diving stab on a rocket!  Holliday just barely missed Thielbar's 3rd HR of the inning, double, would have been 9-8 without the fabulous Dansby grab.  But Thielbar endures, 9-7 heading into the 9th.

Webb has pitched 4 times in 5 days.  Not sure he should go for the 9th.  Might be Ferguson?  But he's gone 3 of last 4.  Man the pen has been worked.

Webb really ought to get a couple of days off at this point.

Jacob Webb!  Three groundouts, no suspense, Cubs win, Cubs win, Cubs win!  Last play was really tricky one, little swinging bunt by Alonso, Kelly got out pretty quick but had a really tough throw, blooped it over Alonso and Busch had a long reach stepping across in front of Alonso.  Able to keep toe and get the out, but a little different spot and throw could have pulled him off; a little shorter he might have gotten plowed over by Alonso.

Nice win!   5 HR's, 7 runs on HR's.  HR's are an efficient way to score!

Today's game moved up to 1:35 start time to avoid possible stormy weather

Today is 6.75 Peterson day.  Would be fun to have him give a competitive outing, and for the Cubs RH bats hit some HR's and score out another win.

I think it would be fun to win today, then maybe win 2-of-3 from Reds, and go into the break with some good vibes.  We've got a pretty weak farm system, I'm not motivated to again be overpaying and giving away prospects for JAG pitchers who aren't actually going to help us meaningfully, and in a season where we aren't going to trade our way into a World Series pitching staff anyway.  So yeah, would like to win into the All-star break; have Peterson look OK today and figure that Taillon can replace him soon, and maybe that Palencia and Cabrera will be back soon enough, and kind of roll with what we've got, for better or for worse.

O'Neill had 3 homers all year. Now has homered on three straight swings.

Bregman's inability to allow PCA to steal 2nd continues. Then he follows with a DP.

Could be a rain-shortened game. In which case it would behoove the Cubs to score.

That game sums up why they're 7 behind the Brewers.

That game sums up why they're 7 behind the Brewers.

Brewers on a pace to win 103 games. That’s the primary reason.

A difference in today’s game was the Orioles executing a perfect relay in 4th inning for an out at home and Cubs executing just an okay relay in 8th inning that failed to get an extremely slow runner at home. Typically, Cubs win these parallel defensive comps.

Cubs outhit O’s today 9-3 and lost. Cubs were outhit 14-8 on Wednesday and won. It happens sometimes.
