Suzuki and Busch with homers to trim the Tigers' lead to 4-3.

Taillon still in; going to the fifth.

Bregman sure is clutch.

Jansen would've walked Shawon Dunston that inning but Suzuki and Bregman let him off the hook.

Thorton hit on the foot with a 109 mph rocket, has to leave.

Could put that one in the "find a way to lose" textbook.

Shame this offense is wasted because we can't put together a pitching staff.

Who is "we"?

Jed Hoyer can't put together a pitching staff. No one else needs to take the blame.

Pitching is a big problem, but they could've easily won that game anyway. If Seiya or Bregman let Jansen walk them. If Hoerner doesn't make an error on DP ball in the 10th they likely at least go to the 11th.

Cubs jump out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning on a succession of singles and walks.

Now in the third, Dansby walks, steals second, and comes in to score on a PCA hit.  7-0.

On to the bottom of the fifth, where Swanson reaches base again, this time with a hit, and Conforto pinch-hits for Alcantara and hits a two-run homer to make it 9-0.

Yahoo gives the Cubs -1000000 odds of holding this lead.

Peterson is only at 65 pitches through 5 innings.  Would be nice if he could pitch as deep into the game as possible.

Wow, crazy, come out of a meeting to check the score, and it's 9-0 after 6, with Peterson at zero walks and 76 pitches!  What a welcome outing from him!  Crazy.

Framber not a very good outing.  He's not a K guy, obviously, but he's got his share of HR's anyway, and a fair number of walks, 1.4 WHIP.  Kinda glad we didn't commit a big long-term deal to him.  I'd be pretty frustrated if we had.

PCA really does play the outfield like Griffey.

Cubs add two more in the 7th and leave the bases loaded, then strand two more in the eighth.  Save some of these baserunners for tomorrow!

Going to the ninth and it's 11-0.  Maybe Civale can finish them off and have a scoreless Cubs debut.
