Ed Hockule was at camp and calling penalties. DBs complaining about how much tougher the calls will be this season. Rodgers is happy.
Packy,
Heres the question that has to be asked ...
you got Peppers ... we got Jared Allen ...
which would you want ?
Peppers is somewhat of a mystery. He did not play like a star last year. We will soon know whether it's age or motivation or what.
He will almost certainly have fewer starts this year and play various positions to maximize his opportunities to succeed.
Looking at the 2013 stats - Peppers had 3 zero tackle games and 6 one tackle games.
Incredible!
I heard some discussion on the radio yesterday. They were discussing the supposed 5 playoff teams from last year that wont make the playoffs this year. The one that caught my attention was the Packers. And were the Pack not make the playoffs who would make the playoffs from the North. ;D ;D
Noonan is quite critical of Cutler. I'm not sure that I would agree with him.
By PaulNoonan @BadgerNoonan on Jul 27 2014, 1:00p 26
The fact is that because of Josh McCown, the Bears got exceptional quarterback play last season. Jay Cutler wasn't bad, but he was more in line with what we expect from Jay Cutler, quarterback whispering be damned.*
*While I have no statistics to back up what I am about to say, it is my professional opinion that Jay Cutler is basically an uncoachable dumbass, and will continue to be exactly what he is for the rest of his career.
We'd need boot.
Maybe knockwurst but not bratwurst. Much too valuable.
If only we could PAY Minnie to take Conte off our hands ...
but I dont think thats legal.
Can we trade him for one of those sausage guys that runs around Milwaukee County Stadium ?
If Finley is healthy, he would look real good lined up opposite of Martellus Bennett.
If Finley is healthy, he would look real good lined up opposite of Martellus Bennett.
Bears need a crapload of help on D to even be competitive this year. Peanut will probably be gone. Briggs isn't the Briggs we've known and loved. Age is catching him. I see another 8-8 season unless we get some top quality talent on the D side, especially the line. Do that, we got a decent shot at being pretty darned good and HOPEFULLY this staff will be smart enough to retain McCown for when Cutley goes down for his annual injury whatever.
What teams will remain healthy and which not?
THE STATE OF AFFAIRS IN THE NFC NORTH IN THE YEAR OF OUR LORD 2014
Is this anybodys division in 2014 ?
Is it the same Packers own it ?
Those are the two questions.
Two coaches got fired because they couldnt beat the Packers.
Is the CHICAGO coach the soon to be third ?
Had to mention Bears and Cubs in same sentence, didn't ya J......ugggh.....
Happiness....
is a warm gun...
hmmm, Beatles "White Album" reference, interesting
Caldwell had the endorsement of his old boss Tony Dungy, and has the same kind of calm demeanor which the Lions could use
If I were Lovie Dovie, I'd "slide" into the Bucs job instead. The Loins job is a coach killer. He'd be gone much sooner with them. They just don't have it together up there....even WITH all that talent and no injuries, couldn't get the job done....
Lovie may relish the chance to play the Bears twice a year.46 nice post
Tucker ain't all that either. Its like a car. Everything is fine until it breaks. You have to fix it. He didn't fixed it at all.
Lovie may relish the chance to play the Bears twice a year.
Congratulations Green Bay Packers on winning the NFC NORTH.
For the third straight year!
Tolzien sucks wait till he gets hit a few times....those happy feet start gittering....then he gives up the ball. 2 picks!
Peckers end up 7 and 9
Considering the conditions I was quite impressed with Tolzien's performance. He looked like he belonged in an NFL game. One good thing from the game was his showing. I am confident that the Packers have found a well-qualified #2 QB. He was let down by the suddenly inept defense.
I think the Pack has a chance in the games without Rodgers and with Wallace on the bench.
PR, how did Tolzein do? from the stats it looks like he had a decent game for a guy pretty much off the street with no reps. It appears he is an upgrade over Wallace.
We're gonna need a few miracles the next few weeks as well. Ehh I'm just kidding myself if I think it's actually going to happen......is the 14' Draft topic up yet??
Never bet on a Bears-Packers game.
JJ - That is crazy, although that trend would have changed this week with Ponder on the bench, and K-nick having a good game Thursday
Hey do you want to get rid of concussions ?
Get rid of the plastic football helmets and go back to leather helmets.
Then lets see sombody lead with a helmet.
Does anyone have an opinion on WR Jennings performance with the Vikings?
I watched Webb play every game over the 3 seasons and formed my opinions based on his performance between the lines, not on his social media presence or perceived personality flaws etc.
Now I must admit I didn't get to see many of the PS games nor did I see him in practice and maybe his play or possibly focus wasn't all there in training camp or PS which contributed to him being cut.
But here's what Emery had to say about Webb and his recent play and play last season where he started all 16 games at the most difficult position on the offensive line:
Coming into this fall, we were very optimistic that he was going to be our starting right tackle and would continue to improve as a player, Emery explained Monday during a news conference at Halas Hall. He never gained the consistency, that sufficient level of consistency that we want out of our players, so at the end his performance wasnt to our expectation level that we felt we needed to move forward with it.
Really, for JMarcus, he had played, I will say that 14 out of the 16 games last year he was sufficient or better, Emery said. He had a lot of good games in that we grade sufficient, good, very good. Fourteen out of those 16, they were at least at the sufficient level, which you can win with that player and his performance on that particular day. Two of them were below that line. The obvious games were the first Green Bay game and the San Francisco game.
f they are wanitng info on our offense from Webb I am guessing they are going to come up empty or misinformed. The guy obviously had no clue what he was supposed to be doing in it.
If signing players off your division rival's scrap heap provided any value then the Bears' should be signing ex-Packers.
Offenses have too many options and variations and change week to week. And regardless of the play call it's all about execution.
If they are wanitng info on our offense from Webb I am guessing they are going to come up empty or misinformed. The guy obviously had no clue what he was supposed to be doing in it.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/08/26/no-ligament-damage-for-kevin-williams/
I saw this play last night and the low block that San Fran player put on him was intentional, blatant and extremely dirty. THAT's the kind of thing that should be drawing a $21K fine, not the clean hit Bostic made last week.
I hope no one else wasted time watching the fiasco in GB.
Must have been frustrating for obnoxious Pete Carroll watching his starters score 3 points sin over a full half a game plus.

Desmond BishopAP
When Desmond Bishop signed with the Vikings, a common response was to wonder whether or not hed take over the middle linebacker job from Erin Henderson.
Henderson has maintained his grip on the job and now the question around Bishop is whether or not hell wind up making the 53-man roster in Minnesota at all. Bishop missed the preseason opener with a groin injury after missing all of last season with a torn hamstring, which left coach Leslie Frazier to say that he needs Bishop to prove he can stay on the field if the team is going to keep him around in the regular season...
Looking like a good decision by Thompson.
The other thing is, it seems like Bama players wind up getting injured a lot once they get into the NFL.
Don't be sneaky, now.
I would love to see Tebow on the packers roster IF he were trying out at TE.
The fact that Trestman didn't so much as give Tebow a tryout with the Bears tells me that at least person who could be considered an expert on the topic, doesn't think Tebow has the stuff.
Ryan from Platteville, WI
Hey Mike, when you filled in for Vic a while back you answered a question regarding the Big M. Are you from Platteville? If so, what's your favorite Platteville memory?
Thats my hometown. My favorite memory was chasing after Jim McMahon on his motor scooter as he cruised around the college campus during Bears training camp, and when I finally cornered him for an autograph, he pretended to fall off the scooter and injure his wrist, claiming there was no way he could sign. When I just smiled and laughed, rather than throw the fit he might have been expecting from an undersized 12-year-old, he grabbed my pen and signed, then patted me on the head and said, Take it easy, kid. It wasnt Mean Joe Greene with a Coke bottle and jersey, but Ill take it.
The roster is still 53 players and dress 45... I think those are the numbers. Most teams carry 6 WRs on the roster. Who stays for the Pack?

Here's the thing, even if he winds up with the Vikings, how much is he gonna bring them?
They can't even tap him for info about our offense because he has no clue what Trestman and Kromer have been cooking up.
Honestly, not to be cold but if they signed him and started him at MLB I could see Trestman running a bunch of plays right at him. Pretty sure he doesn't have the wheels to keep up with Forte and Martellus in the passing game, and I doubt he wants to take on Slauson, Long and Webb a whole lot either.
I wonder does Mike Wallace realize what a hot/humid environment like FLA does for asthma
yep...no escape from the pollen and allergens here either...particularly South Florida.
And i still say, the way I would defend the read option is pretty simple. Blast the quarterback whether he holds the ball or not. And while your at it it, go for his legs like you would a running back. In the read option, the QB has declared himself as a runner, and the protection of being a quarterback is gone. No more, one step, two step penalty. Forget the running back. Annihilate the qb everytime they run the play. Heck I might even commit two guys to blowing him up.
You would see that go out of the NFL very quickly, I can't be the only person thinking about this and I bet there are a few blows coming the ways of Kapernick, Wilson, and RG3
Agreed. After a few teams lose their star QB running it, it will be history. Either that or they will only run it with a back up or non-QB.
wouldn't surprise me if we let Urlacher walk.
Briggs is here, Roach is probably gone (meeting with the Raiders today) and Urlacher is in limbo.
Lions Adding Reggie Bush
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/03/13/bush-lions-have-a-deal/
If the Packers wind up with Steven Jackson the NFC North is gonna be absolutely STACKED with RB talent.
And we have no LBs to stop them
The rules are all geared towards offense now. Therefore all teams want offensive minded coaches.
That can't be! The resident genius here said all NFL teams want to hire OFFENSIVE MINDED COACHES as HC. This must be a hoax!
A 20 year old who smokes pot? Shock :o
This is a pick worth the risk for some team. I wouldn't mind spending a 4th on him...
He may be a talent, but with so few picks can we use one on a CB? That would seem sort of like a luxury pick.
I'd rather have 10 Corey Grahams and Bobby Engrams, than what they are putting together. Pacman is available...
And the Honey Badger in the draft...
Fisher is making his bed with the Rams, isn't he? Janoris Jenkins, Titus Young, Cortland Finegan... Nice combination, this should start to get interesting. Tank Johnson and Cedric Benson may also be available
Rams are the Bengals of the NFC.
What will be interesting is how they'll try to cram Queens fans into a 40,000 seat college stadium for 2 years during construction.

Yeah those late season games could get interesting especially. That will be another outdoor game for the Bears those two years.
Here's (http://minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2012/10/16/vikings-stadium-photos/) some other drawings from the winning designer complete with the Jerrytron.

Maybe AP will get player of the week honors? THat seemed to be our mantra this season, would love to see the Vikes go in and roll the Pack now.
I am going to be pulling for the Seahawks and Vikings from here on out.
Interesting though, you look at the final standings. Pack 11- 5, Vikes 10 - 6, Bears 10 - 6. The big surprise was the Vikes and not the Lions who finished 4 - 12. Strongest division in football, record wise...
Pack played to win, their defense is just awful.
I think it is back. I clicked the old link a few days ago and it came up with new posts. Been dead for ages though.
It was probably a Zima...
It was a bet and I think ACL lost it and had to buy him a dinner. He chose a pork chop place in Chicago or something. They took a picture outside in the parking lot with the sign behind them. I think ACL said he had to stand in the gutter and BEERFAN was standing on the curb or something like that.
Only fags drink beer with a lime in it.
But then again, any respecting beer drinker doesn't go to El Charro to drink.
I think he is talking about the first one where everyone knew it was a wasted challenge.
Cowboys on deck tonight :)
I think he is talking about the first one where everyone knew it was a wasted challenge.
It's not the officials fault that McCarthy ran out of challenges. He made a stupid challenge early in the game.
Vikings in the NFC-N lead... who 'da thunk it?
The Bears do not play well in primetime games on the road and the Cowboys have enough firepower to put it to ya if you don't bring your best game against them.
...Even with the regular officials back, the Packers were on the short end of another questionable call after being robbed of a win on a botched call by the replacement referees Monday night. It didn't cost them, however, because Garrett Hartley missed a 48-yard field goal after a holding penalty wiped out his go-ahead, 43-yarder.
The questionable call came after Rodgers' go-ahead, 11-touchdown pass to Nelson with seven minutes to play. Replays clearly showed that Darren Sproles fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Green Bay appeared to recover. The officials ruled Sproles was down by contact, but Green Bay was out of challenges...
Packers have ALWAYS gotten the calls. DB's breathe on the Pack receivers and it's pass interferience. Meanwhile Packer DB's mug receivers and the refs "let them play"
Today the two worst calls I saw both went against SF, the helmet off unsportman and especially the refs picking up the block in the back call on the punt return. It was blatant and the guy never scores without it.
Packers will be p*ssed Thursday night and out for blood in primetime. Bears OTOH may be a bit overconfident and if Tillman cant go that's huge.
Bears better strap it on and I hope our O is in sync from the get-go.
I think you are biased about the officiating. The announcres, who know something about the game, called the officiating bad on both sides of the ball. If yiou are honest about it, both teams got hosed numerous times.
Apparently the league called in and told the replacement refs the Packers get all the calls. Cause now they are getting all the calls again like normal.
You are correct. The Packers are crying like crazy because the correct calls are being made against them. Must suck to have PI and holding called on you when you have not experienced that for years...
Good news! Packers kept WR Jarrett Boykin (Rookie 6-2, 217). Unfortuately that meant cutting WRs Borel and Gurley.
They wil play for some team this seaso. Mark it on the wall.
GB went mostly with all the young guys, again.

The pro-Packers math problem that prompted Bears cornerback Charles Tillman to write a letter to a Chicago-area teacher. |
I listed QB and WR...but I almost added CB. Most of what a CB does is defend receivers and you can validate that ability in OTAs. But a significant part of a CB's job is tackling and you can't do that in OTAs.
But pass rushers - no way. Wait till they put on the pads then let me know.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/05/27/lions-nick-fairley-arrested-for-dui-eluding-police/
I am guessing this guy is going to get suspended for a few games. The Lions are a mess.
It's rare I have much positive to say about Lovie but one thing I will give him is that embarrassing incidents like that have been relatively few and far between on his watch. Yeah there was that one incident with Kreutz a few years ago, the Briggs Lamborghini thing, the Tank Johnson stuff and Urlacher's baby-mama drama... but really, the Bears tend to be one of the better behaved teams in the league. And players who do have a tendency to cause or attract trouble (Tank, Benson, Sam Hurd, etc.) usually aren't kept on the team for more than a couple of seasons.
Almost makes you feel sorry for Megatron and Stafford... the two best players on that team and also it seems, the only ones who aren't complete tools.
I dunno, maybe when your team only wins 3 games and you get swept by the Bears you aren't as apt to shoot off your mouth on a Bears board.
The Minnesota Vikings new stadium will be talked in the same breath as the cowpokes stadium when it opens. A 70,000+seat stadium with a retractable roof. Super Bowl and Final fours will be played there.
Minnesota will have the most pro, college stadiums and arenas' per capita in the world.
Holy ****! A V2 sighting!

Looks like the Vikes are staying in Minny and the NFC North will remain intact. Good for everyone AFAIC.
Packrat, I'm unsure I would call NO or SEA quality opponents this year though by the 3rd week or so Flynn might have SEA on the right direction.
If NO sniffs 8-8 this year I'll be surprised.
The bad part about this is they likely will get a high #1 pick next year as a "reward".
I think in my punishment I would have moved their #1 to the bottom of the round.
You would call a team in town from 1946 to 1994 a failure?
You have set some standards that no one can ever reach. :D
Exactly! I dont see it happening. Large city but poor draw. They have USC and UCLA right there who draw better. The Rams and the Raiders failed miserably in LA
I don't understand the obsession for a team in LA. They have had several teams try and fail there.
Trouble for a division rival...
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/04/02/mikel-leshoure-doesnt-show-up-for-arraignment/
Missed last year hurt, now the drug thing... gotta wonder how many more mulligans he's gonna get in Motown.
Any time the Packers play the Bears never bet on either one - no matter the odds.
it would be nice to get to take the Packers for granted.....
How soon you all forget...we lost because of the prevent defense. Horrible.
Teach him to throw? Didn't he win 2 national championships as a QB?
He took a 1-4 team this past season to the playoffs (7-3 record).
Didn't he throw a game winning TD in OT against the Steelers? Perfect pass too! He also threw for 316 yards by the way.
He threw for 206 yards against the Vikings while putting up 35 points.
He threw for 308 yards against the Texans in their back yard back in 2010 and won the game coming from behind.
Sure he's had bad games but his passing isn't horrid.
I think the Broncos just played ultra conservative with him at QB because he's not the typical drop back passer. He's also a running QB and that dimension is something Fox didn't know how to deal with.
If he goes to another team that really wants him at QB instead of fullback if given a chance to play I feel he'll be a much better passer if given talent around him and a coaching staff that believes in him.
His completion percentage is less then 50%.
No they want him as a back up QB. They think they can teach him to throw.
I just heard on the Radio that GB is a team interested in trading for Tebow. Why? Go figure...
Tebow did put up points late in the game. I don't blame Barber entirely. Even after he fumbled in OT the defense didn't stop Tebow from moving them down the field in FG position.
I wouldn't go as far as saying Tebow beat the Bears last year.
I would say Marion Barber beat the Bears in that game. Tebow was just there to take the glory.

Suh told police he was trying to avoid a stopped taxicab when he lost control of the 1970 Chevrolet Coupe.Just like he was just trying to 'get up' when nailed with the stomping penalty.... nevermind the video evidence to the contrary. This guy is a walking douche....
HANIE !
PONDER!
Wasn't GB suppose to stink because they did not do any offseason practices together. That kind of stuff is completely overrated. Comes down to talent and coaching.
It has been claimed that the most important parts of a game are the last two minutes of the first half and the last two minutes of the game.
Sure it would be nice if our long snapper could give us solid sub play on the OL as well... but I know of very few teams where that's the case.
Our offense is so dependent on FGs that I'll take a rock steady long snapper like Mannelly even if he doesn't contribute anywhere else.
I suspect the Bears are going to own the Packers this year. The Packers think they are all set and aren;t even bothering to work out with one another. The Bears offense is working together three times a week with Cutler setting it up. The Bears coaches are going over film and coaching each other up and bringing in other coaches. What are the PAckers coaches doing other then enjoying their vacation?
One team is working hard to get where they want to be. The other is sitting on their ass enjoying where they are. I wonder which team will be better?
Hell the Packers are so damn good they aren't even practicing together. The Bears offense is getting together three times a week. But with a young team coming off a Super Bowl win I am sure it won't be problem. Packers are going undefeated and winning the SB again. Just ask them or their fans. Dumb asses!
I see the Bears winning this division this season.
Lions were lucky to play the Bucs & Chiefs. Let's see how they perform against some competition before crowning them.
Two games into the season and we're already looking up at the Lions.
:-[
Even if Angeblow had a bunch of 1sts and 2nds he still would draft rubbish players
No thanks.
If you chewed them first they would not be little green apples when they came out. Just saying.
GB gets Cam Newton and the surging Panthers
Minny gets Tampa Bay
Detroit vs the Chiefs
Noticed the Kreutz matador play a few times as well. He really is at the end of his run and I'm glad we got rid of him when we did.
Man, I don't think the Bears can beat the Pack or the Saints.
Not sure if it was Kreutz, but did you guys check the NO center getting stood up and knocked back 5 yards on the last play (when the Saints tried to run up the middle from the one yard line...)
: )
