I have no idea how good any of these guys are going to be.  Of course, neither do you.  But your underlying assumption is that Wilken is not able to identify the right players to draft.  That may be so, but if that IS so, there is little reason to analyze the draft at all, since the assumption is that if the Cubs are doing it, it is wrong.

In fact in past drafts JR has complained that the Cubs were not drafting the BPA because they wanted to save money.  Now he says the Cubs are drafting the same level of talent in the past, and paying more money than they need to.

@jimcallisBA #Cubs have agreed w/41st-rder Austin Urban on $100k. Des Moines Area CC RHP has 90-94 mph fastball,flashes 83-85 mph slider.

Yeah, I have a feeling Jacquez, Maples and Dunston are goners. Although someone on one Cubs site who supposedly is known as an inside guy has said Dunston is signing for 1st-round cash.

I have a hard time believing that, but take it for what you will.

Article on bleachernation.com states "maples left the practice field at unc telling his teammates that he had signed with the cubs and would no longer be practicing with the team"

Seems like Vogelbach, Baez and Zych either have or will agree to sign. If Jacquez does as well, that just leaves two "big" names. You'd like to get them all but that's not all that realistic.

The very fact that Jacquez is TWEETING these things so the Cubs can see them instead of responding privately to "GregBird" is an indication that he is posturing for more money.

If they sign all but two of them, they will be quite encouraging, and will create the potential for looking back at this in 10 years as a very important draft.  Hopefully the first of several.

If the Cubs actually get Maples along with everyone else they've already signed or are projected to sign....this could easily go down as one of the best Cub drafts of all time.  I know only a few of them if that many are liable to be stars at the major league level, but I like this draft and am glad Ricketts is backing up his words with actions.  You have to have actions before you can have results.

I'd still be surprised if the Cubs pay any attention to what these kids are saying on social networks. The Cubs aren't negotiating with the kids but with their representatives.

I think it's as simple as Jacquez has a Twitter account, someone sent him a Tweet, and he responded in kind.
