That would be pretty impressive, and something which can be done in a bit more than a month with good training.  One of the most impressive things for me about Vogelbach is the conditioning/weight improvement between his junior and senior years in HS.  He apparently realized that he was sloppy fat, realized he needed to do something about it, did so and is continuing to do so.  I grew up with a kid like that, who went on a serious course of body building and worked himself into pretty beastly condition by his early and mid-20's.  It takes work and dedication, but that type of commitment and effort says a great deal about Vogelbach.

I'm not sure you can put "weight" clauses into their contracts.  The collective bargaining agreement precludes a great many common sense restrictions like that.  If it is possible, they should certainly put them in there.

Can't remember if Shoudlers' bonus was ever listed here. I don't think so, but either way Callis has it at 294K.

Would it be fair to say Jacquez is the best player they lose, if indeed they lose him?  He sounds like he wants to sign, he just wants to get every last dollar he can.  Trying to think who they lost that would be really promising.  Love the fact that even some of the late round picks they signed to overslot contracts had 90+ fastballs.  Who knows...one of them may turn into a Tim Lincecum.  Wish the Cubs could have signed him.

It sounds as if Maples took a physical yesterday, but had not yet signed a contract.  If that is true, he would be an idiot to show up for football practice until the final decision is made.  After all, it is only two days practice in question.

On the other hand, it seems silly for the Cubs to have him take a physical unless they thought there was a pretty good likelihood that they could sign him.

Yes, Lincecum would have been a nice player to sign.  Probably would have turned out different had he signed with us.

There’s not much doubt the Cubs probably would have completely revamped Lincecum’s mechanics the moment they got their hands on him, turning him into another Pawelek or Huseby.  Probably would have turned him into a late inning reliever too.

No way of knowing, but, unfortunately, it would not surprise me if they would have changed his delivery...I'm just glad they're signing some late round guys with the 90+ fastballs this year....or so it seems i recall some of them being posted.

Former Bishop Verot High pitcher Hudson Boyd said he’s confident the Minnesota Twins will sign him this afternoon.

....

Boyd said he and teammate Dan Vogelbach, chosen in the second round by the Chicago Cubs, have gotten frustrated by the process. Vogelbach and the Cubs also have been negotiating.

“I’m pretty laid back but not when it comes to baseball,” Boyd said. “Dan and I just want to play.”

My sources say Joan Baez will not sign with the Cubs today
