Confirming our rumor from yesterday, Perfect Game USA’s Kendall Rogers (who has first reported a number of draft signings this year) is reporting that Chicago Cubs’ 14th round pick Dillon Maples did not show up for UNC football practice today, has taken a physical with the Cubs, and is signing for “huge” money.

Did I read somewhere that Maples mechanics would have to be redone because he short arms the ball, or is he a guy that might can move through the system pretty quickly, and his main hurdle to the big leagues will be an innings cap every year?

The Cubs seem to tinker with just about every newly signed prospect.  But it has been quite a while since the signed a top pitching prospect.  Has there been one since Prior?  We have no idea what they did with Simpson, if anything, since he has been ill for so much of the time.

Right.  But even Cashner was picked well into the 20s.  Reports are coming out that Maples would have been a top ten pick if they thought he could be signed.

Zych's bonus is the second highest in the 4th round so far, with 26/30 4th rounders having signed.

$400,000 is late-2nd round slot.

Jacquez's twitter is classic stuff.... hilarious stuff  Like a teenager who sends out mass e-mails to include "subtle" messages to his ex-girlfriend.  He'll probably follow up that last one with a "but you never know!"

Clearly doesn't want to go to school, and thinks he can negotiate through social networking.  I hope we don't overpay.

I would rather the Cubs overpay in the draft than have them overpay in free agency.
