I agree it would be excessive but it would match up with Bad Century's post about Kenney saying the Cubs offered him first round money.

I'm curious how the bonuses the cubs pay compare to the bonuses teams like the Rockies(think they had signed 4 of their type 4 picks and they were guys who were also hs guys, or at least one of the teams had that situation) paid Jes cited a week or so ago when he was saying the Cubs should have had all these guys signed by now if the other teams could do it...Might be they paid similar bonuses but also might be they didn't...not all high school guys are created equally.

Is it just me, or does there seem to be more big money later round guys signing than usual?  Was just going over baseball america's signing blog.

Dunston wasn't ever walking away from Vandy without a seven figure bonus.  It's definitely an overpay, but it wasn't ever going to get done for less than that.

I don't know what kind of baseball skills Shawon Junior has, but, in terms of raw physical talent, he comes from stock that's about as good as it gets.

I want Bradley Zimmer, too, but there's been no talk of him.  I assume he's going to college.

If Maples is really signed, that makes it a successful draft right there (assuming it is true that Baez will sign).  Everything else is gravy.

You mentioned the gravy.  Dunston, Jacquez and Zimmer.

Minors will be fun to watch next year!

I remember how excited I was to drive, since I live in the middle of the NY Penn League.  Was planning on hitting games in Oneonta, Elmira, Batavia....

Then when I got my permit, the "A" Cubs moved from Pennsylvania to Boise :(

The lower levels should be where the action is next year.  Assuming they all sign, Baez, Vogelbach, Zych and Maples should be either Boise or Peoria, along with Amaya, Hernandez, Hoilman and others.
