Nothing on Briggs...  but supposedly Melton made a brief appearance at Halas Hall, said nothing to the media, did not look good and left.

Our DTs got run over all year long and got zero push in pass situations. It would not surprise me if every DT from this year except Ratliff and possibly Collins is let go and we get a lot bigger at that position.  Either a NT in migration to a 3-4, or big DTs in the mold of the Jauron era D with T-Dub and Traylor. When Tucker ran the 4-3 in Jax, he favored big DTs which is why it really surprised me to see us trot out the parade of sub-300 lbers that we did this year.

Also keep in mind that Ratliff played much of his career as a 3-4 NT. So retaining him would make a lot of sense if we plan on going to a 3-4 and drafting a NT and we need a vet to show him the ropes.

Over the past few days, an online rumor has emerged regarding the question of whether Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is gay.  We’ve ignored them, for a couple of reasons.

First, it doesn’t matter if he is.  Second, he hadn’t personally addressed the rumor.

On Tuesday, Rodgers tackled the topic during his weekly appearance on ESPN Milwaukee.  We know this because one of the ESPN Milwaukee on-air hosts sent us an email with a partial transcript of Rodgers’ comments.

“I’m not gay,” Rodgers said.  “I really, really like women. That’s all I can say about that.”

While much different than Mike Piazza’s on-field “I’m not gay” press conference, Rodgers’ decision to address the issue gives life to a story that many would have ignored.  The story isn’t that Rodgers may be gay; the story is that Rodgers felt compelled to address the rumor by explaining that he isn’t.

That’s all we plan to say about any of it, unless Rodgers addresses it again or some other tangible development occurs.

If you aren't gay you do not hold press conferences telling everyone you are not.  But really who cares. 

I know that the logical thing is to draft a QB 2 or 3 yrs before you actually need him...  but it would hard for me to see us signing Cutler to a long term deal and then turning around and drafting a QB this year.  Our defense needs every pick we can allocate to it this year, especially in Rounds 1-3. If there were a Nick Foles type lying around in the 3rd or 4th this year then maybe I'd be OK with that but I would still hope Emery and Trestman had really done their homework on him.

Using this strategy you draft a couple of players in the 3-7 and FA and develop the best one.  Even though Rodgers was a good pick you often get stung badly if you spend a high first round pick. You need a good QB coach and spend intensive effort developing "the man".

for our D to work we have to get pressure from the front 4.
We couldn't get there this year without blitzing.
No pressure means no turnovers and our DBs get exposed.

Melton and Peppers not playing to last year's form was our biggest issue on D.

I won't miss Tucker if he goes...
