Hannahan used to "date" my sister-in-law, too bad he was in a serious relationship with his real girlfriend in Minnesota.  He got me Leon Durham's autograph on a bat though.

Looks like there won't be a third go-around with Reed Johnson.  He has signed a 1 year deal with a team option with the Braves.

The Yankees have reportedly offered Youklis 12 million for a one year deal.

I wonder what Ron Cey's up to these days.

White Sox are apparently shopping Viciedo, De Aza, and Floyd for either a big lefty bat or prospects.  Viciedo and Floyd don't make much sense for the Cubs...but does De Aza?  He's a similar hitter to DeJesus, only younger and more able to play CF.  He'd probably cost more than the Cubs want to give up, but it's probably worth asking about him.

Brandon McCarthy has a deal with the Diamondbacks, according to tweets from Heyman and Bowden.  If that's true, that may be the precursor to an Upton deal...Bauer and Skaggs were mentioned in a lot of those rumors.

A little bit of a disappointment I'm sure for the Cubs too, since he seemed to be our top starting pitching target still on the market.

I wonder if we'll still go after some other definite starting pitchers.

Some names that have been rumored for Cubs earlier or more recently were:  Villanueva, Liriano, Edwin Jackson, and of course Dempster.  Have any of them signed yet?  I think Dempster is way too expensive to make any sense for the Cubs, and I assume Jackson as well.

I've got to say, I'm pretty happy to see McCarthy off the market.  Ever since Wood's and Prior's lack of health sunk the 2004-2006 seasons, I don't have much interest in injury prone guys as big parts of the starting rotation.

I hope the Cubs really try to make a run at Edwin Jackson.  He's a solid mid-rotation guy who is durable, and there's something to be said for adding a little stability to the staff.  Plus, it doesnt seem like he's going to cost that much.  Right now, the Cubs have Samardzija and maybe Wood pencilled into the 2014 rotation.  It wouldn't be bad to go on and solidify another spot.

According to Gordon Edes, Dempster has turned down offers from the Royals (2 years, $26m) and Red Sox (2 years, 25m).  He also says that Dempster had an ERA under 2.0 with the Rangers in the five games after his first three starts, which I did not realize.

Looked up Dempster's game logs for Texas, and Edes failed to mention that Demp struggled in 3 of his last 4 game of the season (after the five games in which he pitched so well).

He's obviously not going to have trouble getting a pretty darned good contract though, if he's turned down those offers already.  I would have been happy to have him back with the Cubs, but I'm confident that isn't going to happen at that cost.

I doubt Dempster comes back.  He's going to want a NTC, Theo/Jed don't give them out.

I don't imagine the Cubs are going to outbit $25/2.
