Whatever happens this week, I hope the Diamondbacks trade Upton.  I'm getting sick of hearing his name every time it gets close to any active trading time.

3 years, $39 million for Napoli with the Red Sox.

I kind of pegged him and Swisher as guys who'd get similar contracts.  If that sets the market for Swisher, I'd love for the Cubs to try to sign him.

Yankees have some pretty serious issues facing them for the 2013 season, including no starting catcher (with Martin gone), ARod having surgery and out for at least the beginning months of the season and Jeter a question mark after his broken bone.  So as of now, they have holes at C, SS and 3B (plus Swisher, who is also gone) played over 100 games in RF.

Their offense was driven by HRs last year and they are losing 45 between Martin and Swisher (who is also gone).  ARod had another 18.

And Hank Steinbrenner insists the team is going to get under the penalty threshold for salaries.

Have age and bloated contracts finally caught up to the Yankees?

Well considering some of the deals for the likes of Jeremy Guthrie, Mike Napoli, B.J. Upton, Brandon League, and Angel Pagan, it sure doesn't seem like teams are hurting for cash right now. 

Wasn't there a time when $10 million per year was a lot to be giving to a player?  Now mediocrities like Napoli and Pagan are getting that type of money.

Actually it might even fair to say that we're overpaying Soriano by only about $7-8 million per year at this point, and maybe even less than that.

Heck, Soriano's season was better than Napoli's last year, and Napoli is getting $13 million per year.

It's interesting that all the second tier outfielders are flying off the market this year before the top tier.  Most rankings I saw had Hamilton and Bourn as the top two outfielders available (some had Upton up there with those two)...most years, other outfielders would've waited for those two to sign before they picked their teams.  But not this year with Upton, Cabrera, Hunter, and Pagan. 

Even if the Phillies panic now, I have a hard time seeing both Hamilton and Bourn getting what they want on the free agent market.  One of them may end up being a real bargain.

Joakim Soria is close to a 2 year deal with the Rangers.


Sounds like it'll be in the same range as Fujikawa's deal (2 years, $8-$9 million).
