Dave O'Brien--the Braves beat writer for the Atlanta-Journal Constitution--has tweeted that the Braves may be near a deal for a bat.  Would be nice if it was Byrd.

I wouldn't even bother wasting my time listening for offers for anybody with a no trade clause or 10/5 rights.  Why bother they all want to stay I know because I read it here.

I didn't realize Jeff Pentland was the Dodgers hitting coach.  Anyhow he got fired by the Dodgers today.

Here's a guy who has sucked this year, but has shown enough promise in the past that I wouldn't mind seeing the Cubs try to make a deal for him and carry him as a bench player.  He's still just 26...maybe the Rockies would do a deal straight up for DeWitt?

If he can't hit in Colorado, he's probably not going to hit anywhere.  See Garrett Atkins.

Well, he's hit fine the last three years, and his career home/road splits are not drastic like you would expect from Coors (about 25 points of OPS, which is nothing).  This is his first truly horrible year, and it's just a 91 AB sample.  If they're going to consider releasing him, he seems to be a low risk, decent reward guy that would be worth acquiring for cheap.

Plus, if Ramirez isn't back next year, I think Stewart is a far better risk than anyone the Cubs could get on the free agent market.

If he makes it thru waivers and the Astros pass on him, I wouldn't mind the Cubs taking a chance on him but I wouldn't want them to trade anyone for him.

Mitch Williams is about the worst color analyst I've ever seen/heard.

He's even worse than Joe Morgan AND Tim McCarver.

He'd give Joe Carter a run for his money.
