He a good pitcher. He going to be expensive, probably $100+ million and with the Cubs spending that probably limits future moves. It kinda of why I was opposed to going after Dansby. He's a fine player, but he a league average hitter, great defensive SS and he's going to be the most expensive player on the Cubs roster for the duration of his deal. That isn't an ideal use of resources.
The same goes for Suarez. He's good, he'd do well in the front of the Cub defense. The Cubs at some point need strike outs at least Cease would add that and he's right handed.
My other issue is just free agents in general this year. Cease and Suarez are going to into their age 30 seasons. You'll get them basically for 30, their age 31 season is going to be shortened/lost with a lock out and so then you are looking at age 32. Lester hit a pretty decline starting at 33, so you just aren't going to be getting as much bang for buck.
It would be completely different with somebody like Imai since he's 27, but I just have a hard time believing the Cubs are going to be at the top of the market.
