Projections already had them around 86 wins. There was never any real chance they were going to sign Gallen.

Gallen deal supposedly $22/1, to match the QO that he declined.  But, most of it is deferred, so the actual value will be less.

Cubs sign Michael Conforto for some reason. I mean, they do have zero lefites on the projected bench but Conforto has devolved into a pretty bad hitter generally, and a reverse-splits guy the past two seasons. He's also subpar defensively and pretty much only a LF now. Hopefully this is a minor league deal.

Wow, did not expect that.  Forgot he existed.  Interesting how variant one player's age/success graph can look from others. 
*First 6 seasons, only one with OPS+ below 122-148 range.  Since turning 28, only once in 4 seasons above 100. 
*Last year, he got a $17 deal from Dodgers; with their tax rate, they spent $35 on him.  This year, minor-league deal.
*Interesting that even though he didn't even bat .200 last season, Dodgers still gave him 486 PA. 

Hopefully Moises shows up soon, he comes in in great shape, and he comes in bat smoking.

I've got zero problems if Conforto makes the roster.  He'd be just fine as a 4th/5th OF and bench bat and hopefully would have some good veteran clubhouse attributes going for him too.

Conforto can't play CF, so he isn't a replacement for them.  Unless they think Shaw can play CF, and I wasn't overly impressed with the few plays I saw of him in RF.
