I'm mildly confused about the money being tossed around by the Cubs.

Outside of Maples, who among the guys picked after round 3 that we are talking about were considered a top end prospect that was hard to sign? 

Dunston Jr was considered hard to sign because of his Vanderbuilt commitment, but was he ever thought of as a top end prospect?  I dont recall that being the case.  Same with Gretzky and Devoss.

It seems like the Cubs got heavily leveraged by OK prospects.  I guess I don't understand.

Maybe the Cubs are signing Dunston because they can't sign Vogelbach.  That would be typically Cub-dopey.

I guess it depends upon what you consider a top end prospect.  If you sign a guy with 4th round potential that you took in the 20th round, it equates to having an extra 4th round pick.  If you sign several of them, you are likely to have a stronger draft than if you didn't do that.
