reb, I've got Kevin Alcantara for RH OF spot. He's out of options, no? Maybe he'll get traded, I know you've kind of been anticipating that. But until/unless, he's the guy. I kinda worry that he won't hit enough to be useful, but maybe he'll hit enough to be a good fit?
Alcantara had .984-OPS vs LHP at Iowa. That's pretty strong. So maybe if limited to LHP matchups, perhaps he'll actually hit pretty well, and be ready to be a capable mlb platoon-oriented guy? He's also young enough that perhaps he's just ready to take a developmental improvement step? Plus he played through a sports hernia last year, so maybe some of his productivity was limited by that, and if he's healthier that will also help him improve?
What he could provide, in the hypothetical that he hits enough and isn't an auto-out liability:
-PCA injury contingency in CF;
-Seiya-injury contingency in RF (vs LHP)
-PCA rest against some tough lefties
-Busch some rest against tough lefties, both Austin + Alcantra could play?
-If he hits well enough to be useful vs LHP, perhaps Seiya could sometimes DH against LHP, and let Kevin play RF and give Seiya a little rest from fielding?
Also possible that Alcantara might compete with Austin for some DH AB. I wouldn't expect Kevin to hit well enough to be the RH DH versus lefties, I'd expect that to be Austin. But if austin struggles and Kevin hits pretty well, maybe he'll just hit his way past Austin?
