Logan Webb, Joe Ryan, Eduardo Rodriguez, and Jacob Lopez combined for 2 points today. And Clay Holmes had that complete meltdown in the 6th inning yesterday. Shirtballs SP is a dumpster fire right now.
I have 4 waivers left, so let's make it worse. Picking up Nick Lodolo ahead of his start against the Dodgers tomorrow, dropping Jacob Lopez. How could that go wrong?

Then we eliminate SP/RP roles. Everyone is just a P, doesn't matter whether you're starting, closing, or somewhere in between.
I'm a couple weeks late jumping into this conversation.
I think an innings limit is fine, but I'd really like to keep the strict 4/4/4 rule through the draft--I don't think it would be hard to monitor that during draft week. That would still keep some decent real-life SPs in the pool going into the season.
After the draft is over, we still have 4/4/4, but RP vs. SP eligibility could be determined by whatever eligibility they have on Fantrax. If you're lucky enough to pick up next year's Ashcraft or Griffin, then congratulations...you can keep them in a RP spot all year. But the innings limit still keeps that from being abused. If you have a couple of guys like that in RP spots all year, your pitcher scoring might be done for the year by the end of August.

Ha! Hey this is what's left in the FA pool at this point!

Throwing games for draft position, and it’s not even September…shameful…

Re: how innings cap parallels mlb, and waivers
innings cap isn’t a mirror to mlb, obviously, but we’re running a 13 team league, so the pool of available pitchers in our league is much better than mlb.
In that environment, possible for an owner to game the system by streaming starters and earn an artificially inflated number of points.
Our league protects against that by limiting waivers.
Personally, I hate the waiver limit. I think it limits activity, and therefore interest, in the league. There are plenty of transactions I’d pull the trigger on but for the waiver cost. If there were no waiver limit, I’d enjoy myself more. Maybe that’s just me.
More broadly, current waiver rules create another system to manage, and I think Curt and CBJ would both tell us the league would benefit from less bureaucracy/management requirements.
Here’s where innings cap and general P role really shine: General P role eliminates any question about openers, relievers, hybrid guys, etc. Makes the league better for owners and commissioners. Nobody has to worry about start counts or role changes.
Then implement innings cap *and* remove waiver count. Fantrax seems to do a great job of automating claims on new guys to the pool. No headache for commissioners. If we have no waiver count, that’s another process eliminated, friction removed for owners, and the cap protects against gaming the system by streaming SP.
You wanna pick up a guy? Great, pull the trigger. Long live the Smurf Cup.
More automation, less friction, system self-regulates.
-
Strongly oppose any innings cap. Especially if it means cutting the strikeout penalty for hitters. All it does is make mediocre hitters better while continue devalue pitchers. Why don’t we just change the whole league to be a 5x5 league wouldn’t that be OK? I think that would make sure that Tico gets what he wants in having a league that lines up to what national publications want players to be worth in roto ?
method, any scoring changes I would propose would balance the change in hitter values by increasing points per IP for pitchers, among other small changes.
goal is to improve overall balance while correcting the hitter k issue.
Heard and agreed we need to be very sensitive to hitter vs pitcher values.
Unless you really philosophically love the hitter K penalty, I think you’ll be pleased by the proposed changes.

Divers confirm
Pick up abimelec ortiz
-
Trade: Shirtballs send our 2nd rounder to the Divers for Yandy Diaz and their 5th. Tico to confirm.
Shirtballs drop Nick Gonzales, but thank him for being a more than adequate fill-in for a couple months.
I'm not opposed to trading Isaac Paredes before the deadline tomorrow if anyone needs a 3B who is keepable next year.

right on cue...endy r. c pit to il, glass onions pick up augie r. c mia

Oh, and I like the 12 points for wins...Phil Regan vulture wins are a pleasant surprise...

From Curt: An extra catcher, outfielder, MI, CI, and UT to mimic a major league bench.
I don't think anyone purposely uses 'bench' /utility players in these slots...with the number of teams in the league and with injuries, an owner can pluck starters for these positions...EXCEPT the 2nd catcher, that , like I whine about all the time, should be eliminated, and maybe replaced with either another UP (ugh), or a true bench slot that gathers no points, so owners can put players (like Austin Riley) on the bench until they get their heads straightened out.
But, I dont know if fantrax allows that...
-
The Brats place Riley Greene on the IL and sign Andruw Monasterio to replace.

Thanks Curt!

True that the game has changed, but our changes have not kept pace. 5 starters and 5 relievers is what our founders thought would be a fair distribution of pitchers 20+ years ago. It was also an attempt to keep pitching and hitting points balanced.
Perhaps it wasn't as true to MLB as we wanted, but some suggestions in the past 5 years are nuts. I look forward to the lockout. LOL
-
Valid point on 15 waivers. That was a 20 year old concession to the fact that the Commissioner had to make all moves. Could be done away with, but then we would be just another Yahoo league.
Not having a bench is invalid. We have extra starters every night. An extra catcher, outfielder, MI, CI, and UT to mimic a major league bench.
This league started with 5 starters and 5 relievers. Newcomers insisted on increasing the numbers over objections. Whose idea was the last expansion to 4,4,4?
Our original rule was if a reliever had 5 starts he had to be an SP. That wasn't good enough for newbies.
5 starters, 5 relievers isn't a reflection of the current 13 pitcher staffs and it isn't reflective of how those pitchers are used. MLB isn't the same as when this league started. In 2000 there where 37 starters with >200 innings. 67 with greater than 180 innings. 16 relievers had >30 saves (8 had 30 the year before), Last year 3 starters had >200 IP, 21 had greater than 180 IP. 8 relievers had more than 30 saves. Of those 8 relievers 1 had 30 saves the year before and 3 have 5 of less saves this year. For hitters in 2026 the league wide K% is 22.1%. It was 16.5% in 2020.
With 14 teams there are 42 MI needed just to fill 2B,SS,MI. The 45th ranked MI has a slash line of .230/.315/.267 for an OPS .583. He's ranked ahead of guys that have nearly league average offense.
-
How does a 15 waiver limit resemble the MLB? We don't have a bench like a MLB team. We allow up to 8 starters. The league isn't a pure reflection of MLB teams. It is an attempt to come as close as possible to mirroring running a major league team.
The cap allows an easier way to enforce people carrying starters and relievers on their roster and limiting streaming of pitchers. It would not effect any team that is sticking with current set up and limited roster moves. It would only be an issue for people that are trying to stream or carry a team full of starters. Openers aren't the problem in the league. They barely score any points when they start. The issue comes with players like Rea and Assad that bounce back and forth between the rotation and bullpen. Or starters that follow openers if they are given relief eligibility. The problem is with how the league defines who is a starter and who is a reliever.
The league in the past tried to combat issues with creating increasing more complex rules, when sometimes it better to find an easier solution to limit the problems that people are wanting to address.

-
Actually I’m just going to drop Lodolo and get it over with.
-
Same question. How does a cap resemble in any way with MLB?
-
Here is the more radical plan that Tico thinks people would hate.
Hitter Strike outs go to -0.5
Pitchting Points get reworked.
IP: 4, ER: -2, QS: 4 W: 3 L: -2, Save/Hold: 5 Blown Save: -2
As for Biases:
Logray's Bag: Pitchting: 3,803 (3776), Hitting: 4,800 (4228): Overall: 8603 (8,004)
Red Hornets: Pitchtign: 4161 (3952), Hitting: 5842 (5268): Overall: 10,003 (9220)
The point totals aren't 100% match because I'm not going through and calculating every roster move. With how the rosters stand right now, I'd be further behind Curt with the scoring changes.
-
Anybody want to take a flyer on Nick Lodolo cheap? Like 12th for 13th rounder, scrub minor leaguer, or decent enough RP, etc.? He came off the IL tonight and is not off to a great start, so I'm probably cutting him in two days.
-

Are you willing to police peoples rosters? Anyone willing to besides Curt?
We haven't even posted proposed scoring changes. You might acutually be surprised how scoring changes would still benefit the elite hitters and pitchers and devalue the mediocre hitters and pitchers. It is fairly easy to test how the scoring changes can effect rosters, certain players, or even types of players. I guess we can conitnue to value guys that have .600 OPS, with low strike outs and stolen bases.
And how would a cap on pitching be like real MLB? Jesus, let's just eliminate all position requirements so anyone can load up with power hitters? Short a catcher? Just slide Judge in there. Sorry. Some of you are out to destroy this league, not improve it. This rp issue is an easy fix. First if all, Fantrax needs to stop tagging damn near every pitcher with sp/rp labels who no longer start or when some jackass manager chooses to open with an rp. What we've lost is a common trust for each other to do the right thing. Frankly, I'm beginning to think some guys trying two change the rules to fit their players with strikes and innings changes will kill us. Together with a lockout, I think we're done.
Fantrax tags starting pitchers because of the definition of a starting pitcher for the league. The problem is the league is using defintions for players from the 90's.
Fun fact. Again none of have seen the proposed scoring changes and it wouldn't have changed the standings. Elite players will still be elite. Guys with low OPS that don't stike out would be penalized. Guys that don't stike out and have good OPS will still be really valueable. For pitchers, elite pitchers will still be valuable. Bad pitchers on good teams will get penalzed because wins won't be the biggest contributor to points. Good pitchers on bad teams will be more valuabable, but no lets just assume the worse about people. Seems fair.
The inning cap would accomplish exactly what the league attempts to limits. Moves, using starters in relief roles, not affecting people that play by the rules. All while not causing people to have to rat on other owners.
-
The Brats drop Jonah Heim to make room for Alejandro Kirk.

CBJ has me on ignore

How would the innings caps work?
We'd go back and look at the number of innings pitched for the teams at set a limit that would account for our current pitching set up.
Say the limit is 1000 IP. You would be able to get pitching points up to when your pitchers throw 1000 innings. It removes the need to monitor for openers, pitchers going back and forth between the bullpen, openers, starting. If you use all starters then you are going to hit the limit early on and you won't score any pitching points after that. There won't be enough innings to have a bunch of starters and few relievers and teams that are close to 8 starters with 4 relievers won't have to worry about running out of innings.
It is the simplest solution to a problem that the league has been dealing with. There will be enough innings to so people aren't going to have to add relievers and release starters, but there won't be enough innings to get you through the end of the season if you go with too many starters and that will cost your best pitchers points.
There can also be a rule about being unable to trade pitchers if you hit the innings cap before the trade deadline, but the fact that it is a keeper league will prevent some of that as well. Also if you hit the cap early you are going to lose out on your best pitchers innings.
-
How would the innings caps work?
We figure out how many cumulative innings teams can score points for over the course of a season. When you reach your innings limit, no more points scored. Innings cap would be high, a bit above historic max-level team IP accumulation to ensure no disruption to how league currently operates, but not too much higher to avoid pitcher-streaming madness. Effectively, the cap shouldn't feel like a cap - it's a safeguard to enable simpler roster management.
Then we eliminate SP/RP roles. Everyone is just a P, doesn't matter whether you're starting, closing, or somewhere in between. Completely gets around the opener stuff for the true bullpen guys, and better positions our leauge for where baseball is headed. We're likely to see more hybrid pitching roles moving forward, creating additional challenges for owners and commissioners to manage under the current roster structure.
If you want to roster 12 SP's, knock yourself out, but you'll be hurting your team because there will be better relievers available on a P/IP basis vs a team's 9th starter, for example. And you’d run into the innings cap.
-

Joe, any idea of how to fix dev's points or do we just wait a bit?
You had to reverse the trade on Monday. Dev had too many starters with Hancock still being on his roster.
You are down a reliever for Monday, but your roster still scored I believe. If not I can add Sewald back.

Brats confirm the deal.
-
Joe, any idea of how to fix dev's points or do we just wait a bit?
-
JR and Curt's trade: Trout, Kirk, Hancock, Dominquez and method's 7th to JR for Latz, Duran, Elder, and JR's 9th.
Curt picks up Bohm and Michael Peterson to legalize roster, dropping Martin. Apologize to everyone for the trauma.
-
roster is back...
-
No...still have 0 from yesterday and total 8408
-
Okay, I've rescinded the trade and fixed dev's roster. Are the points fixed?
-
I think I know what happened because I've done it myself at times: I've gone to propose a trade, marked the picks I want for myself and the other team, but forget to tick the "trade" buttons on the picks. If picks had shown I probably would have declined because I was negotiating with JR on a better deal, JR can confirm that. Anyhow, since this is a snafu, I prefer to negate the whole thing. I'll get you Lauter back and try to fix your points, and I will continue to negotiate with JR. Sorry.
ok...post here if you think all is reversed...
-
Or we could do that too. :)
Or we could start using our common sense that an RP is an RP even if his manager chooses to use him in the first inning instead of the 7th or 9th.
-
Curt: You said you wanted a closer, I didnt check ages and control, but ok 8 for 11...
glass onions drop lauer and pick up dl hall
Can this trade be back dated? I receieved 0 points last night due to an illegal roster.

Just something to bring up, we really could use some more refinement this offseason on what constitutes an RP and who absolutely needs to be a P or SP. When I was looking for replacements for Williams, just about all of the top performing non-closer RP's have at least 1-4 opener starts this season. It's a pain in the butt to ask for permission to roster someone like Bradgely Rodriguez as an RP with his 4 opener starts, but as things stand right now without permission, he's unrosterable in this league even though he's having a great season.
I'll put this in the offseason proposals, but maybe one way to do it is if a pitcher has 5 or fewer opener starts of less than 2 IP's, it should be OK to list him as an RP. The moment they have a start over 2 IP's or exceed 5 starts, they're an SP.

Dev, I sent you a trade offer at Fantrax…
-
So that's what you consult before the draft. Answers a lot.
-
The Brats place Devin Williams on the IL and sign Kevin Ginkel to replace.
Also, all these fantasy publications that had Williams in the Top 5 RP's before the season should never be allowed to do fantasy rankings ever again.
-
one of yer 7's for my 13th
given their ages and control, I thought it was a fair trade on the face. How about my 8 for your 11

Part ways with Sir Anthony and pick up Quinn Mathews.
-
Dalton Rushing to the IL and picking up Amaya to replace

I'll need to activate new Cub Clay Holmes soon, so I need to open up a SP/P slot. Jake Bennett's having a strong rookie year: 2.90 ERA in 12 starts, 18.2 points per game in the BBFL. He's available for a draft pick, or as part of a package with a hitter for a better hitter.
Or I'm open to offers for Dustin May or Eduardo Rodriguez instead.
-
Shirtballs pick up Eduardo Valencia, drop Caratini.
I think I'm down to 6 waivers remaining according to Curt's post.

The Brats sign Jonah Heim and release Austin Wells. Now down to 5 waivers.

Welcome to both the Cubs and the Shirtballs, I guess.

kloeds, trade offer at Fantrax.
Also, we all know Eduardo Rodriguez is mostly smoke and mirrors. But he's also the 14th best SP in the BBFL this year. If anyone thinks he'll keep it up for 2 more months, he's available for a pick or a hitter.
-
Also br, trade offer at Fantrax.
-
Anybody want Andre Pallante (39th leading SP) or Bryce Elder (52nd leading SP and likely higher after tonight) for a mid to low pick upgrade or a young hitter? I may need to make room for Andrew Painter in the next 7 days.

-
If anyone needs a warm body at C, Tyler Stephenson is available for best offer.

Smith-Shawver to minors, sign Thornton

I really need to stop rostering so many Braves hitters. 2 for 29 with 13 strikeouts in their double header against the terrible Mets pitching staff today.

langaliers to the il, glass onions pick up heim
king back up from minors, glass onions drop him
-
Palindromes confirm the Shirtballs trade
-
I'd still be interested in trading someone in the Kazuma Okamoto/Isaac Paredes/Nick Gonzales group to open up a spot for Acuna when he comes back tomorrow or Monday.
Or maybe Austin Riley if the draft pick is good enough. He's still young enough to regain his 2021-2023 form, right?
-
DDK's move Buxton to OF and add Harry Ford at UT to complete roster.
-
Think it was my 11th rounder? But confirm Bauers and 11th to the Hornets for a 7th.

Divers pick up Morejon, drop Kerkering.
-
Arrighetti to DL, claim Gasser
-
Waiting on Tico to review some numbers, but we'll probably show a more gradual change of pitching stats and a larger change of pitching points. Both are attempting to incorporate a 0.5 strike out for hitters and scoring for pitchers that represent closer to how they are used and keeping the over distribution between hitters and pitchers scoring 50/50.
-
Oz Busters send JR Ritchie back to the minors and pick up Kumar Rocker to replace him.
-
hou king to the minors, glass onions place him there, pick up yean wash
-
It sounds like Acuna is going to be activated as soon as tomorrow. I don't have a really obvious drop because my real underperformers (Riley, Emerson, Turner up until a few weeks ago) are all guys I'm planning to hold and hope they get better.
So if anyone is interested in Paredes, Okamoto, Marsh, or Gonzales, let me know. Acuna is likely to replace one of them. All are keepable for at least one more year, so you can get a head start on planning for next year.
-
DDK's send JT Ginn to the IL, add Keider Montero to replace
-
Oz Busters activate Jose Ramirez from the IL. Drop
Heriberto Hernandez
-
Divers drop Heinz pick up Kwan
-
Is anyone interested in Kazuma Okamoto? If he can ever stop striking out so much (or if we just reduce the strikeout points to .5 next year), he's a very valuable hitter. He's on pace to hit 35+ HR in his first year in MLB.
He's available for a draft pick.
-
Corn Mashers IL Basallo, pick up Fortes
-
DDK's add RP Andrew Morris, drop Elvis Alvarado.
-
DDK's send Jack Flaherty to the IL, add Zach Thornton to replace.

DDk's place Joshua Koroda-Grauer on the IL with mashed balls, activate Byron Buxton.

Corn Mashers thank Kyle Leahy for last night's contribution and release him.
Activate Ranger Suarez for tonight's return vs the Orioles.
-
It’s too bad the Rynos got frozen with Carson Kelly, Keibert Ruiz, and Kyle Teel on their roster. We could use some more quality second catchers in the pool right now.
Shirtballs are interested in trading a mid-to-late draft pick for a catcher if any of those are available. It sounds like Will Smith is out at least another month, and Logan O’Hoppe isn’t getting the job done as the replacement.
I would like to see 1 catcher position on a roster
-
Valdez off IR, release Castillo
-
Oz Busters drop Colin Holderman and pick up Hogan Harris - waiver move #3

Find someone who posts on this board regularly that is willing to take the Rino's and we can talk. Otherwise, the team stays frozen and goes into the pool next spring. (If there's a season next year.)

Glenelg Palindromes mid season report:
As the ladder position states there is not much good news for the Palindromes. Too many injuries (some were knowon before the season began Bautista, Greene, etc) and too many shite palyers have derailed the season. With some players coming back could they rise up the ladder in the second half......
probably not but hey there is always a chance.
Best keeper : Bobby Witt Jr
Best Draft Pick : Sonny Gray in round 6 (11-1 W/L)
Best Waiver/replacement : Parker Messick for Chris Bassitt (Curtis Mead has been good too)
Best Trade : Have had 3 trades all are ok, Judge for Kurtz is I guess the best?
Best Minors guy in the Palindromes : Zyhir Hope has 286 AVG, 19 HR, 15 SB so far
Worst Keeper : take your pick Salvy Perez, Coby Mayo, Marcelo Mayer, Jacob Marsee...
Worst Minors Guy : Jonah Tong but he's not too bad
Worst Player to be on the Palindromes Squad : Shane Bieber has 2.67 points so far this year
Draft pick I would change if I could go back in time : Draft Riley O'Brien instead of JT Realmuto (Draft Cody Bellinger instead of Edwin Diaz would have worked out better too)
Best ex-Palindrome player : Not counting Sonny Gray, pretty sure that Cade Smith used to be a Palindrome at one stage
Players with over 300 points who I had never heard of before 2026 : Jake Latz, Davis Martin, TJ Rumfield, Bryan Baker, Foster Griffin
-
Activating and releasing Susac

-
Activating and releasing Siemen
-
Geez, I knew you knew that but some of these other cowboys.
-
And of course, we will need a plan for pitcher points as well…
-
I wanted it discussed now, before people start making trades, trading picks, planning for next season, etc.
Of course I know it’s not being changed now…geez…
-
We certainly aren't changing it now. Not midseason. If you want to vote on it after the season, fine. I will always vote no. Just because hitters are taught to elevate the ball, resulting in more strikeouts, the game is the same. The top teams every year at the end of the season are normally the ones that put the ball in play. You can't commit an error on a strikeout. Look at some of the Cub ugly wins the past two or three weeks. Lots of opponent errors. Some of you scream about RISP and how bad the Cubs are. Runners on second and third to start an inning and nothing. Why? 2 K's and a fly ball. I will always vote no, but if the league as a whole insists, I'll live with it.
-
Eliminate K, rework pitchers points.
-
Seems like now would be a good time for people who haven’t responded to my post about eliminating Ks to share their thoughts…
-
Reinstating Contreras, dropping Comforto. Hornets

I mean, obviously I wouldn’t have made the move if that wasn’t the case…
-
According to reports on his profile, no…

Long story: due to time constraints and misunderstandings, some revisions are being made to the trade between the Hornets and the Oz Busters. The trade now is Hornets send their #2 pick, Vlad, Ritchie to Oz for Ray, Martin Davis, #7, and Torkelson. Mason Miller was mistakenly put in trade 1. He is returned to Oz. Sorry for the confusion. Oz to confirm.
-
Corn Mashers send Suarez to IR, pick up Kyle Leahy to replace.
-
Before the trade deadline gets here, and owners start planning for next season…
What does everyone think about getting rid of the -1 for batter strikeouts?
When this league first formed, K’s were looked at in a negative light…as rally killers by high risk/high reward sluggers swinging all or nothing. 30 years later, is a K really worse than a low-K contact hitter hitting a weak grounder or pop up while just trying to make contact and put the ball in play however he can? We don’t penalize batters -2 for GIDP’s, and they are much worse imo.
I would be in favor of either eliminating the -1 altogether, or reducing it to .5 rather than 1.
Also…if pitching needed to be tweaked to keep things relatively even…how could we do that?
Yes, I'd support reducing/eliminating K penalty for hitters.
Have played around several times over the years with how to do that while balancing against pitching. The cleanest way to do that is to modify (and generally reduce) how points are awarded for outcomes (W/L/S/BS/HLD), while increasing the points for innings pitched.
I also think that better conforms to the way pitchers are used today, too. Couns talks all the time about out-getters. The main objective of any pitcher is to secure outs while minimizing runs. That securing outs is so important suggests IP points should increase.

-
What does everyone think about getting rid of the -1 for batter strikeouts?
I would be in favor of either eliminating the -1 altogether, or reducing it to .5 rather than 1.
I'd also be for this. Of course, maybe that's just because Dave and I battle for the most hitter strikeouts every year. I think going to .5 is more realistic than getting rid of the strikeout penalty all together--we'd really have to overhaul the pitcher points if we went to 0 for hitter strikeouts.
Also…if pitching needed to be tweaked to keep things relatively even…how could we do that?
The pitching points are harder to update than the hitting. The way teams value pitchers has changed so much since this league started. But some ideas:
- Swap the points for QS and W--teams value going deep into games far more than pitcher wins now, so QS should earn more points. And QS are more common (but not by that much).
- Reduce/remove the points for losses. No one cares about pitcher win-loss record anymore.
- Make saves and holds worth the same number of points (or at least move holds to 6). Fewer teams have set closers, and more teams are building bullpens with multiple guys who could close for most teams.
- I've suggested this before...take advantage of Fantrax's setting for variable points per SP inning. Maybe give more points per out after the 5th or 6th inning.
-
Dropping Harris to legalize the team. Hornets
-
Confirm trade with the Hornets

DDK's place Byron Buxton on the IL, add Tyler Tolbert for alliteration purposes to replace.
Alliteration, cool. Next time do onomatopoeia.

I'd like to get him off my team, but I'd probably still need to get back 80% of what he was worth in the offseason. So if anyone wants to take a chance on a guy who is still only 29 years old and used to be an All Star, make an offer.
Ha! 5 minutes later, Riley hits his first homer in almost 2 months.

Did the player you were trying to drop have a 1:00 ET game? The Montgomery claim processed at 1:53. So if the player you were trying to drop had a 1:00 game, he would’ve been ineligible to be dropped when the 48 hour waiver period ended.
Good call!! that is probably it...It was just weird I had never seen the message before...I know we can drop players on day of game, but yes, yer assumption makes sense to me...my players would have been playing at the time Montgomery was off waivers. Than ks!
-
DDK's activate Royce Lewis from the IL, drop Edwin Arroyo to make room.
-
Madmen activate Alvarez, release Romo.
-
I tried it at 8am
Did the player you were trying to drop have a 1:00 ET game? The Montgomery claim processed at 1:53. So if the player you were trying to drop had a 1:00 game, he would’ve been ineligible to be dropped when the 48 hour waiver period ended.
-
I’ve also been up since 2 AM and have been through 2 weather delays and a missed connection so I’m not going to be much more help today. Midway sucks to be stuck in for 8 hours.
-
Shirtballs send Will Smith to the IL, pick up Logan O'Hoppe.
It feels like catcher is even thinner than usual on the waiver wire.
Change 1 Catcher to Bench
-
I tried it at 8am
-
I’m on a plane. The games for day had started and the rosters were locked, so you couldn’t drop X player. I’ve gotten that before and it had nothing to do with Montgomery.
The only that changed with Rynos was a switch of owners. No other settings were adjusted.
-
Shirtballs send Will Smith to the IL, pick up Logan O'Hoppe.
It feels like catcher is even thinner than usual on the waiver wire.
-
bogaerts on pat leave, glass onions pick up massey kc
-
I'll let Joe answer that but I think not. It's basically just removing Chiman as manager, nothing else is effected.
-
Maybe when Chiman's Rynos got locked...another bit was flipped also?
-
Here is what Arnold Swazzeneh=ggar says:This error is a standard "period mismatch" lock in your league manager. It prevents you from exploiting a loophole where your player claims process and your roster drop process happen in different scoring periods.Because Braden Montgomery can be claimed in Period 79 and the player you want to drop doesn't unlock until Period 80, the system rejects the transaction. To fix this and pick him up, try these steps:Drop a different player: Pick someone from your bench who is eligible to be dropped in Period 79 to make room for your claim.Make it a "Future Claim": Check your league's waiver settings to see if you can put in a claim for Montgomery that automatically processes in Period 80.Wait a day: Simply process both the drop and the claim on Friday (Period 80), assuming the Braden Montgomery waivers hold until then.Keep a close eye on your waiver wire, as his recent walk-off heroics in the majors make him a high-priority target in many leagues.
-
I got a message I never saw before when I tried to claim Montgomery. The player I was going to drop has a game today, but Montgomery doesn't. ( redacted the name)
Sorry, but you are unable to perform that operation.
• You cannot execute that transaction now, because Braden Montgomery can be claimed in an earlier period - 79 (Jun 11, 2026) - while (Name Redacted)can only be dropped/moved in period 80 (Jun 12, 2026), and your league settings do not allow a claim and drop in different periods.
So I tried another player, who happens to have a game today and got the same message.
I ended up picking another player who I did not want to drop, and does not have a game today, and I selected the send to minors option
I haven't seen this message before
Thnis was at 8 am this morning, with games starting at 1pm...
-
Was waiting for that move…
Old Style DLs Cruz and signs Marte.
-
Madmen release Quero, move Torres to C. Move Angel Martinez to MI.

-
LOL lots of times, br.
-
I got a notification on Fantrax that says ownership of the Rynos has changed to CBJ. Does that mean Chiman is out? I was thinking about making a trade offer.
Have we ever asked the board if they want to take over a team in-season? I wonder if we might have more luck finding an owner that way instead of waiting until November. It might feel like less of a commitment, lets them get ahead on the learning curve, and gives them half a season (and a trade deadline) to start reshaping their team. Just a thought.
-
Beware the Walbert who goes snickity snack. :)

A’s moving Perkins to the rotation.

-
When we were fixing it, the games has started. He'll be there in the morning.
-
Oh, and I picked him up legitimately a while back. And now he seems to be MIA from my roster. Good times.
-
It was my mistake - it wasn't Crews it was Jung Ho Lee who came off the IL and Varsho released. Somehow I put Cruz on the IL when that move was made which was a mistake. I tried to put him back on the active roster but it was too close to game time so it wouldn't let me. Resume normal activity please.
-
I miss read how he worded it. The game started before he posted it so I moved everybody for Thursday.
He hasn't been on the IL so I don't know why he needed to move Crews and release Varsho.
-
On a serious note, has anyone heard from Chiman? He was angry with a decision and sounded like he might quit a while back. If he is AWOL, Joe will freeze his roster.
-
Reprimand to Boris: you put Crews on your IL illegally. Bad Aussie. Bad Aussie. No treats for you!
-
That's what I remembered. He picked up Crews legitimately for an injury replacement.

Aidan Miller was a consensus top 20ish prospect coming into the season. He was rated higher by Keith Law (#6), but was in the 15-25 range on most lists. He hasn't played this year because he has some unexplained back injury.
Maybe his career is going to be derailed like Brennan Davis, or maybe he'll get better and be a top prospect again. If you want to take a shot on him, he's available for a hitter or maybe a starting pitcher.

Chi, if you had drafted Brown, where would he have been placed considering the fact that he had 15 starts last year and Fantrax has him as an SP. He would have been an SP or P. That's what I based my ruling on. We are 30 games into the season. That's why I said I would reconsider later.
-
He’s pitched all 12 games in 2026 as an RP with no indication that he will ever be a SP this year and your telling me that his starts from last year trumps the fact that he is a true RP this year after 12 straight RP appearances? That is ridiculous and intentional and I’m done wasting my time thinking things will get better with the league.
-
Activating Iglesias, dropping Santillan. Hornets
-
My ruling is no. Brown started 15 times last, not counting the times Counsell used an Opener for him. He has not yet earned an RP. P is where he belongs. Willing to reconsider later. Also looking at rumor that Jax may actually move from Opener to SP, so you may have more worries coming at you.

I have Ben Brown at P. He has pitched in 11 games this year all as a RP. I would like to get RP status for him also. If he would resume as a SP I will move him and of course right on cue he promptly gives up the lead to the Reds. :(

Stupid Twins...they're taking forever to put Joe Ryan on the IL. Perkins was going to be my pickup.
Ha, I kinda wondered if he was the guy you were eyeing.
After Walker blew another save, didn't want to risk waiting any longer on Perkins. Seen too many other SP/RP/P targets disappear off the wire to those faster to act than me.
-
Divers pick up Perkins, request his usage at RP (only place he’s pitched, current A’s closer), and drop Walker

Last attempt to clarify:
An SP is a Starting Pitcher who not only begins a game, but is expected to go multiple innings, the fact that he might get bombed or injured, notwithstanding.
An RP is a relief pitcher who only normally throws an inning or two at any point of the game, including the first inning. Beginning a game does not make him an SP, just an aberration.
A P is a Pitcher with no clear role or a rookie without a role yet. He may be a pitcher up from the minors who hasn't been given a role yet. He may be a Long Relief pitcher who has been pressed into a starting role. Any of these, if rostered in our league as an RP must be moved to P from RP the first time they are clearly used as an SP.
Yes, we're rationalizing and trying to cope with the changing game of baseball and adjusting our rules accordingly. If you don't agree, we respect that, but that doesn't mean we will stop trying to keep things fair.
-
And it’s pretty easy to do **** wrong when you haven’t been around that long in the first damn place…
Well if 8 years isn't enough time for you, then maybe it's time for my team to get contracted then too.
That doesn't just go for Dave, anyone can step up.
-
And it’s pretty easy to do shit wrong when you haven’t been around that long in the first damn place…
-
It is pretty easy to tell people you're doing things wrong when you won't put in the time to do it the way you want.
-
That’s where you’re wrong.
-
Then why did you answer with “one” when I asked? It seems like this new “rule” actually changed nothing. I asked questions when it was first proposed because it was vague, and needed more detail. Now, it’s just ****.
This league has always been flexible with rules since there are so many of them.
Being inflexible is shit as well.
The rule kept people from drafting SP/RP in the RP role except for 2 people. One of the got dropped fairly early and the other got dropped because he was starting games. I think it accomplished what it was supposed to.

The intent was to keep pitchers that flip between starter and reliever from being in a reliever spot and forcing Curt and Iowa to look to get every roster to see when guys would go over 3.
It wasn’t intended for a closer, who made 1 start because he was going on paternity leave, from being a relief pitcher.
Closers are hard to come by as is. I thnk that it is a fair decision and will benefit all owners in the future from having a weird situation mess with them. Reliever scoring should be addressed at some point.

-
Rather explain it to s friend:
The 4/4/4 plan was to take care of guys putting SPs at RP until they had 3 starts and conveniently forgetting to move them
I didn't vote for it to penalize and force.moves on owners because a true RP opened a game. He wasn't considered a starter by anyone.
We are bickering over what? One point if he gets a K?
If you want, call for a vote, and if more people agree with you. I'll drop out of the league, and you can take over again. At my age this isn't worth the stress because some MLB msnager doesn't understand our rules. LOL
-
I guess someone needs to explain it to me like I’m 5.
We have 4 spots for starters, 4 spots for relievers, and 4 spots for guys who make appearances as both.
If one of your 4 relievers makes a start, move him to 1 of the 4 P spots, and find another reliever. There are plenty.
If you’re hesitant to drop a P who is primarily a starter (because of a perceived discrepancy in points over the season), then just cut the guy. That’s one of those hard decisions owners have to make sometimes. No one is entitled to 8 starters anyway…but if you choose to have 8, you should have 4 relievers with 0 starts…as the rule is written. JMO…
-
Palindromes trade Nick Kurtz OAK and Edward Florentino PIT to the Madmen for Aaron Judge NYY and Zhir Hope LAD
-
DDK's activate Daniel Palencia from the IL, drop Morejon to make room. Also, DDK's traded 4th round pick to Logray's Baaag for a 7th rounder and Gabriel Moreno. Dropped Bo Naylor to make room for Moreno.
-
Still don't believe the intent was to screw over our owners. Sorry. It was designed to keep owners from screwing over others by leaving SP's in the RP slots.
-
1 start. There would be 54 relievers needed. There are plenty of my of closers, closer committees,’set up men for this. If you want a SP/RP there are 8 spots for those players.
-
No, it was to prevent people from leaving pitchers who were atarting, not just opening, at rp for extended periods, like Assad or Rea. An rp who opens is a waste of fantasy concern. He can't get a W. He can't get a QS. As a matter of fact, he can only earn an L. I think our best options, frankly, is to ignore them.
-
I mean, that was the whole purpose of the P positions…for RPs when they make opener starts…
-
Acuna to the IL again, Shirtballs pick up Brandon Marsh.

I think we put him at rp and hope he doesn't get another start.

I think we put him at rp and hope he doesn't get another start.
-
Indeed they are!
My only deal here is if I throw Latz back and he somehow locks down the closer job, I don't want someone else being able to pick him up later and he gets ruled that he can stay at RP after all. My feeling on this is Dave had it right and that he's a P in this league and that someone like Fairbanks was an exceptional case of an established closer getting a very fluke opener start.
-
Openers continue to a pain in the ass
-
No this is the first time he's been on a roster this season.
-
Did anyone else get points from his start?
-
I only picked him up this morning as a replacement for Helsley, so he hasn't had any points for me at all. Didn't realize until later that he had a GS on his stat line.
He didn't pitch today, so I'm not out anything one way or the other if I need to pick someone else.
-
Did you forfeit his points as an Opener. We've allowed guys to stay at rp if they take zero points.
-
If Latz has one start, he has to be a P, not an RP.
My only issue here is that we had Pete Fairbanks making a start too, but he (very justifiably) was ruled he can stay at RP.
Latz definitely has more history as an opener/swing pitcher, but literally his only start was his first game of the season when DeGrom was a late scratch. He's been a short guy ever since. Just want to be sure before I throw him back to the pool that he's definitely a P in this league for the rest of the year because it looks like he's about to get some run as the closer for them.
-
Ryno’s
P B Woodruff to IL pick B Brown
-
Yes, you have to make tough choices. Just like the big boys.
-
I wouldn't mind opening up a RP spot for a reliever that is currently in the pool, but I can't justify using my 6th waiver already when I already have four good relievers.
If anyone is interested in Tyler Rogers, he's available for a small draft upgrade right now. Send an offer on Fantrax and I'll probably accept it.
-
Madmen pick up Nick Martinez to replace Bradish.
Brash to IL pick up mason Montgomery
-
If Latz has one start, he has to be a P, not an RP.
-
Yeap post it!
-
Method, I will accept that trade if you’re still up for it.
-
Actually I just noticed a problem with Latz. His first game of the season was a 4 IP start. All relief appearances since then. He's been used as the closer his last three appearances, but he was used in a swing man role last year.
Does he need to be in a P spot, or can he be RP eligible?

The Brats place Ryan Helsley on the IL and sign Jake Latz to replace.

I considered that, but we have always treated veterans in the pool differently. Undrafted, they were the chaff in the pool. Waivers were for veterans dropped by other owners and raw rookies who were not in someone's minors. Giolito could have been drafted, if someone wished to take the chance. He wasn't. It's fuzzy.

-
I think br's point, which I agree with, is that Giolito needed to be available to everyone on waivers first before he could be signed as an FA.

-
Yeah, it wasn’t initially announced that he would go down when the deal was first announced.
The big question is why he didn’t have an orange + instead of a green one…
How Fantrax works.
If a player is on the IL I have to go in and edit to put the player on waivers. I typically only do this for guys that are worth being claimed and it is pretty rare for guys to not get drafted and be worth picking up. It becomes a pain because I typically have to edit their waiver period multiple times.
In Giolioto's case it didn't work because you jumped the gun. We would have to have a paid league to remove players from the player pool that aren't on major league teams. Those are all the guys with the blue flags and 99% of the time they aren't worth doing anything about because they aren't coming back. In Giolito's case once he gets assigned to the minor leagues he would have gone from a blue to green flag and that would have removed him from the player pool. Once he gets called up then he would be added back into the pool and would have to go throguh waivers and he'd get an organge button.
I didn't do anything with Giolito because he isn't great and didn't think someone would add him.
-
The Padres signed Giolito to a one-year contract Wednesday.
Analysis
He'll earn a prorated $3 million, per Jon Heyman of the New York Post. The deal also includes a mutual option for 2027 that could feature a sizable buyout. Giolito posted a 3.41 ERA and 121:56 K:BB over 145 regular-season innings for the Red Sox in 2025. Elbow soreness prevented Giolito from being available for the postseason, but he had a normal offseason throwing program and said earlier this month on Audacy's Baseball Isn't Boring podcast that he's been maintaining a pitch count of around 75 during live batting practice sessions. Per AJ Cassavell of MLB.com, Giolito will be assigned to Single-A Lake Elsinore, where he will knock off some rust before eventually joining the San Diego rotation.
Okay, as I read that, it's more of a rehab than a minor league assignment, so I'm permitting it, but as br said in his post, you'll have to take zero points until he gets up.
-
Yeah, it wasn’t initially announced that he would go down when the deal was first announced.
The big question is why he didn’t have an orange + instead of a green one…
-
Palindromes IL JT Realmuto get G Sanchez at C
-
No, he doesn't need to go through waivers, but to be claimed. He must be a Major Leaguer. Dave, you jumped the gun on this. In effect, you have added a minor leaguer which is not legal. Take another pitcher until Giolito gets back up to the Padres.
-
Old Style signs Lucas Giolito and releases David Peterson.
I think this is against the rules--doesn't Giolito have to go through waivers when he gets promoted to the MLB team?
But I think we should allow it. I'm happy to let a good BBFL team take a zero in a SP spot for a few weeks, and Giolito will probably be pretty bad once he gets back to the majors.
-
The Brats sign Masyn Winn and release Ezequiel Tovar. Waiver #4.

A half dozen message in the BBFL about the Rat Pack. Unreal. Anyone want a cool team name?

The Cannonball Run movies were both early 80’s, I believe. Sammy and Dean were great in both movies.

I'm just saying they were still in the culture in the 1990's.

Iglesias was not available to pitch Saturday due to shoulder discomfort, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Analysis
The positive news is that the injury isn't related to throwing, as Iglesias slept on his shoulder wrong. He could be available Sunday, though his status still isn't very clear. Robert Suarez picked up a save Saturday night in Iglesias's absence.
Poor baby. He has an owie because he slept on the wrong side of the bed. I swear more guys get hurt and can't play these days... I think more guys go on the IL in one week these days that all of the teams in baseball in 1965.

Should've dropped Jorge Polanco instead. But I'm not complaining--4 HR in 6 games for Walker. It's come with 10 strikeouts, so that's not great. But maybe he's just a 23 year old Schwarber.

Corn Mashers add Garrett Mitchell, waive Jordan Beck.

Yeah that's wild. I have just instructed my pitchers not to have any children so they don't lose points. Happy to take a zero for that start, not sure he had many points anyway. Strange situation indeed.
-
I like Joe's suggestion that Openers just not get any points. Solves the issue.
-
This rule is still at BBFL. If it was changed, I usually go in immediately and alter it. I'm getting senile so I might have missed it. Was it just an idea or did we actually vote on it? I think disallowing a player from RP status because of one start is rather drastic.
ii. Any pitcher that has started 3 games in a season is an SP. If used as an SP in minors, must be, without appeal, an SP in MLB
-
Precisely why I asked…
-
Oh yeah honestly I'd like it if there's an avenue that gets Fairbanks to stay at RP, and if it's available to any other owner, that'd be great. Fairbanks should be an RP in the league.
But I'd be lying if I didn't say I'd be wondering what would be happening if this had been Devin Williams or Ryan Helsley. Or if one of those guys gets a weird instance where they get two openers later this year. It'd at least good that we all can rest a little easier if one of our main closers somehow winds up with a fluke opener start at some point.
-
Let me talk to Curt.
Fairbanks only started because his wife was induced and the game was delayed. He is the closer and it seems like it is a one time deal.
Taylor has intentions of returning to the starting rotation and had a bunch of opener starts last year, he's the type of pitcher that the rule was put in place for. It would be different if you had Wrobeleski in a relief role like you did at the start of the season.
-
Yeah method just ran into this a few days ago with Grant Taylor too and had to move him after his first start.
Again, I'm not a big fan of that and wish there might be a way to clearly demonstrate when someone's just being used as a 1-2 inning opener while also making life easy on the commishes, but those are the rules that we're under at the moment. Hate bringing it up but better to bring it up now before it becomes a problem at some other point.
-
It’s one…go back to pages 2 and 3 of this thread…
-
I thought it was one and done? I’d have to go back and look to confirm, though…
-
Please tell me you’ve been watching Kilian a while…at least before deeg’s post.
I’ve been watching him since the draft ended…letting him ripen…if Deeg brought him to your attention, I’m gonna be pissed…
He's one of two guys I was watchting. Deeg posting did probably get me more motivated to make a move though.
-
That still means he gets 2 more and has to move, right?
Everything I’ve seen since the rule change is that it’s one start and that’s it.
-
Shirtballs activate Suzuki, drop Grisham.
-
That still means he gets 2 more and has to move, right?

I’m going to hate bringing this up because I’m not the biggest fan of the rule, but I think Fairbanks got an opener start a few days ago.

Dropping Kikuchi, moving Gil up from the minors.

I’ve been dreading someone posting in Around Baseball about Kilian. I figured it would be Chris, since he loves to post on how great former Cubs are performing.
-
We've all been texting each other, "Hope somebody picks up Killian before Dave nabs him." You didn't get the memo?

Yeah I was about to make Waiver #4 on him. Still not convinced the K’s are behind him, but at this point, you kind of have to take a flyer to find out.
-
I figured it was now or never with Walker, he was going to be the pickup the next time anyone's OF or UT went on the IL.
-
Shirtballs pick up Jordan Walker, drop Max Muncy. Waiver #3.
I was really debating picking him up
-
VOTING ISSUES 2
1) Change pitchers to 4 SP/4 RP/4 P. This will mean that relievers that get starts will not score points and will have to be moved to the P position.
1 start. There would be 54 relievers needed. There are plenty of my of closers, closer committees,’set up men for this. If you want a SP/RP there are 8 spots for those players.
-
Shirtballs pick up Jordan Walker, drop Max Muncy. Waiver #3.
-
Exactly. Fortunately, even if people forget to post it, every move made shows up on my screen, so I can just clip and paste onto a Word program. Fantrax KNOWS when it's an IR move, it just can't be trained not to deduct a waiver. Silly Fantrax.
That is only if they do the transaction the easy way. If they don't pair the transaction you have to do even more digging.
-
A lot of planning and scheming during and before the draft goes out the window when your main point makers are constantly rained out.
-
It would become an issue of tracking waivers for just a pitchers.
The problem is Fantrax can’t separate an add/drop from replacing a minor leaguer or an IL move. So then someone (Curt or myself) has to come up with a system to track all the waivers vs other moves. Once you get a few days behind, it can become an issue. People make moves and they sometimes forget to post it. You then have to check the transactions to make sure everything matches.
People want a complicated rule system, but they don’t want to put in the time to make it work.

Seems like SP is the concern with potential abuse of waivers. Would using waivers(10?) for SP’s only and look at limiting moves after Sept 1 to IL moves or waiver claims(only for minor leaguers called up) be a decent way to keep it from ever becoming a problem?
Not suggesting we change that this year just throwing out an idea.

-
Because MLB doesn't have starters like Brayan Bello, Grant Holmes, Christian Javier, etc., on the waiver wire who can be picked up and dropped for a single start, one after another, ad infinitum :)
That kind of hyper-streaming would really distort league mechanics.
-
I agree with that. I’d rather err on the side of too high than too low for the initial test season…maybe a compromise at 1750?
Of course, part of me screams that MLB doesn’t have innings limits…why should we?
-
Just 26 SP's with more than 175IP and 7 RP with more than 75 IP last year, for context.
-
Will be interesting to see how IP totals come in this year.
Doubt it needs to be quite as high as 1800 (and putting it too high will encourage streaming behavior I believe the league wants to avoid), but somewhere closer to 1700 (175 IP per SP/P, 75 IP per RP) likely makes sense.
-
1800?
8x195 and 4x60?
-
Think waiver cap needs to remain in place for as long as pitcher IP are unlimited.
If pitcher IP were capped, I think the league could easily disregard waiver cap.
-
O’Neil Cruz, Max Muncy (A’s), Ozzie Albies, and Owen Caissie all available…
-
Madmen pick up Jose Fernandez and release Winn. 12 moves to go.
-
I really didn't think Colt Keith would be my best hitter a week into the season. The Shirtballs aren't off to a good start this year.
Colt Keith was my next pick before you got him. I had him last year.

The Brats promote Andrew Painter from the minors and release Brayan Bello.
-
If people want me to quit keeping track, that's fine. It simply occurred to me that if we have the rule, there should be some monitoring, plus if it's totally on the honor system, what could be the horrible outcome in September when the guy in 2nd suspects that the guy in 1st overused? Just saying. Honestly, the only person I've ever been concerned about was Smurf. LOL
-
It is unfortunate you made one more move before I posted that. I can see how that activated your antennae.
You're my friend too, but you said last year back in August when we were discussing how well unlimited waivers were working that there were only two teams abusing the system, the Hornets (in jest) and mine, which didn't totally sound that way. And since abuse of the sytem is apparently one the reasons why it's all of a sudden being tracked again and since it suddenly got announced after I made a move, well there's only been one team that I know of that's really gotten that accusation in some form or another.
Anyhow I appreciate your response. We've been at 15 waivers forever, and if it's being tracked now, that's fine. I'm probably only short one that I would otherwise have been, and that's not too big of a deal.
Quite frankly, though, when we talked about how well it was working last August, most people seemed to like how it was going. And it seemed to make you guy's jobs a little easier too. If it was only meant to be a trial to see how well it would work, it seemed like the trial was a success.
-
But you're right, I should have announced that I'd volunteer to keep tract this year. That was the bone of contention the last couple years, no one was willing to keep the list. I may get weary of it too, but I wasn't aiming at JR in spite of OTHERS kidding him that he would wear out the waiver wire.
-
It is unfortunate you made one more move before I posted that. I can see how that activated your antennae.
-
JR, you are a good and trusted friend. Don't be paranoid. I started just copying moves that weren't IL's or minor league moves as soon as the draft was over. No way you will use up all your waivers. But what good is a rule if we can't enforce and account for it?
-
I say all of that knowing being a commissioner isn't easy and definitely respect and appreciate the work you guys put in. I've been a fantasy baseball commissioner before and still am a football commissioner. It's not the easiest job in the world in the least.
-
I've tried to bite my tongue on this one, and I'm going to try to be respectful on this. But I think if we're all honest here, the real reason 15 waivers is now being announced again is because I'm the one that made that move. Otherwise, that should/would have been announced right away when Dave made his first move or I made my first move or even when the replacement draft ended. And we all wouldn't have 99 add/drops on Fantrax like we do now.
I'm not too bent out of shape out of being out of 3 waivers that I didn't think I'd be losing because I probably would have made 2 of the moves for Friedl and Leiter anyway. Wrobleski I absolutely would have waited on, since I thought it was 50-50 whether Halvorsen would have made the Rockies (which he eventually didn't). Is what it is on that one, though.
If it's not selective enforcement on account me, at its very least, it's not very good commissioner communication in the least bit. It shouldn't be announced a week into the season when teams are already making moves.
In general, we gave up trying to get it right and just trusted people not to be abusive.
I can read between the lines on this one too because I got accused of this last year and saw my name getting mentioned on that back and forth with method yesterday. I haven't been abusive of anything whatsoever. Everybody had a chance to add a guy like Leiter if they wanted. He got the save last night, and was available most of the morning if someone wanted him. Everyone even had time for me to ponder for a few minutes whether adding him was worth the commissioner chiding I thought I'd get if I did pick him up.
All in all, there just needs to be better communication and consistent enforcement of the rules if we're going to enforce them. It shouldn't be something like "we're now going to enforce it and announce it because this owner decided to do something."
-
The 15 waiver rule was never dropped. It was just untraceable, rarely correct, and unenforceable. In general, we gave up trying to get it right and just trusted people not to be abusive. I still have that trust, but since I'm going to try and keep up, owners will have a better idea where they and their closest competition are really at.
-
I guess it was just an experiment...lol...thjis is from June 1 2025..I didnt check sept 1 to seeif it was permanent...
UGE ANNOUNCEMENT
For all owners: the waiver issue continues to cause frustrations. I have communicated with some of our older owners and original founders of the league to determine why they limited waivers to 15 since MLB doesn't limit waivers. The consensus was that the league was founded with the idea that owners should try to build teams like MLB via trades and draft, not with steadily pulling players from the pool (think Smurfcup), and they didn't want owners regularly switching SPs to try and get cheap points.
As a result, we are going to experiment with an idea. We will ignore waiver numbers altogether until the trade deadline and we will check on how things are working. Let us know, Joe or me, when you are down to one and we will replenish you.
The rest of the plan is to disallow dropping an SP after September 1 unless it is a legitimate IL move. This should resolve most of the issues.(Obviously you don't need to email me any longer when Fantrax sqruws you.)
-
Method, you have mail and site messages
-
Hmmm thats not how I understood it...I thought you gave up the 15 waiver idea because we are now able to make the changes ourselves...the 15 waivwer supposedly, from what I thought was posted last year was to not burn out the commish who was the only one who could add/delete...back in the day
-
We've always been at 15. Last year, Fantrax wasn't counting them right, and we were constantly resetting. Midseason it was impossible to figure out where everyone was, so Joe and I gave up. But I'm keeping track from the season's start this year so nobody goes wild. :)
We've triggered Fantrax at 100, so we don't have to reset that stupid count so often.
-
So we're back to 15 waivers again?
-
Waivers

Why we have RULES, a little jaunt into history. Recently I insisted that Joe and JR respect our rules in regard to a trade. I need to explain why. This league began with 20 teams. We hear a lot of comments about the depth of talent in our pool, or lack thereof. Yes, those teams only had 23 players, but imagine trying to come up with about 140 more players out of our current pool? Of course, you’d have to take 2, 3, maybe even 4 of your best players off your teams to stock those 7 teams.
We didn’t have a minor league those first years, but we did observe a phenomena that produced our rule that we couldn’t trade picks until June 1 (later changed to May 1). Owners who didn’t quite get what they desired in the draft were then trading young players and their draft picks to be competitive NOW, rather than patiently building. Due to bad luck, poor planning, or general goofiness, when things didn’t pan out, these owners quit, leaving WJ, Dave, then me, scrambling to find a new owner. Eventually we contracted two teams, and not long after, another two. Now we are down to 13, mostly because people were destroying their teams with draft pick trades and minor league trades that, when they backfired, destroyed the attractiveness of their teams.
Fantasy baseball has had a problem since inception that encourages skirting or finding loopholes in rules rather than obeying them. In an effort to curb that, we have tried to make our rules approximate to the best we can the rules of MLB. MLB doesn’t allow the trading of newly drafted players for one year, we prohibit for a month. MLB doesn’t allow trading picks at all. We prohibit for a month. The whole idea was to keep owners from risking the future of their teams so early in the season that they quit trying, and making their teams undesirable to a new owner.
The same thought went into the rule about trading prospects, forcing owners to make hard choices, just like MLB managers and general managers are forced to make. How many rostered players would the Dodgers have if they weren’t forced to cut to 40?
I kinda wish that I had forced JR to make a more MLB like decision, but I blew it.
-
I have a few young 1Bman and some OF available for trade.
Vinnie P, Sal Stewart and Tyler Soderstrom, Brent Rooker Luis Robert Jr are available with a SP for an SP upgrade.
Do we still have a waiting period on trading prospects to a certain date?

Thank ye Boris and method.

Anyone looking for an OF as you start the season?
As Okamoto looks good at 3B in the early going, Barger may not accumulate necessary games at 3B to qualify at CI at break, and if I can get out in front of a roster crunch I’d like to.
Necessary disclaimer: not trading Roman Anthony.
