With Gretzky and Dunston in the fold, it looks like the Cubs are relying more on bloodlines rather than on scouting. I call that the Arabian colt philosophy. Let's hope it works.

They might have agreed on the money but there is some other sticking point.  Perhaps he is demanding that they unretire number 14.

Not at all what I wrote.

I wrote that given the Cubs' track record the failure to have more prospects signed was troubling.  And it was.

They speak better English in the Dominican than they do  in North Dakota.  That Swedish accent is a killer.

By the way, you can not use the terms "educated" and "Fargo" in the same sentence.

If you can get several "OK prospects" after the first couple of rounds, you have a good chance of an excellent draft.

If these were top guys, yeah, spend the money ... but whose saying Dunston Jr and Gretzky, and whomever else is a top end prospect?  Outside of Baez, Vogelbauch, and Maples ... whose considered to be a high reward player?  Maybe the Cubs went with BPA after round 5 or whatever, and good for them if they did that ...but the surface of things seems like the Cubs are acting in a desperate way and are getting hammered.  1st round money for Dunston Jr.?

Maybe I misread, but all I see him saying is "nah, someone else was way dumber."  Not sure how much praise that is for Dunston Jr..

The amount of money you pay a prospect does not alter the quality of the prospect.

Yes, if you get enough OK prospects, some of them are going to turn out good.  And if the only way to get a "enough OK prospects is to overpay," it makes much more sense that to overpay for FA.

As someone said earlier, overpaying for draftees only hurts for one season.  Better to spend money here than in free agency.
